Review Summary: Progressive and Grind are hard to imagine together; however, ¡T.O.O.H.! have done it in this incredible, fast, and technical work.
It is hard to believe that ¡T.O.O.H.! Recorded another album as good as this one.
Rad a Trest(Order and Punishment) is a fast paced, technical, aggressive and melodic adventure in which, the musicianship and versatility of the band is put at his best.
The album itself is hard to describe by words; of course, some songs share the unique sound signature of the Vesely brothers, but the structure usually breaks with the orthodox rules of grind. That is what makes this album so good.
The more traditional grind songs, such as
Konec KontinentálnÃ*ho Kontejneru, Abu-Hassan and PadajÃ* PÃ*skajÃ*, whose structures are usually interrupted by slow chorus and ambience background vocals that make a clear statement of how important is for the band to experiment with elements out of the grind context.
The unorthodox songs, such as
Já Samaritán, Analyza Záhnědy, and Kali, usually incorporate classical guitars, folk-acoustic sounds and some jazz movements, adding to the album a softer sound, yet aggressive.
As for the individual development, the guitar is the most interesting and complex piece of the album, showing an immense variety of crushing riffs, melodic harmonies, odd movements, ambience noise and folkloric sounds. The bass comes in second, being as complex as the guitar but lacks of innovation, few songs feature the bass as an original force (Kali among few), it usually follows the guitar and rarely shows ambience from it. The drums are the most present instrument of the album, following the tradition of grind, it shows a variety of blast beats; however it lacks of variety(redundance) making it the weakest link of the album.
The lyrics, although they are from a foreign language, are politically cynical and direct, reminiscent of classic grind albums like Napalm Death’s Scum or past hardcore works and the vocals, which is the trademark of the band, make justice to those lyrics by expressing desperation and hatred toward politics.
Overall, Rad a Trest is an album that is worth of listen without any prejudice towards the genres as it transcends over those. It is made for those who enjoy the musical expression at his finest and support musical experimentation.
