Review Summary: Oh boy.
Bryan Stars is a youtuber, former interview and full-time adult scene kid. It seems now he wants to dabble in music. Now that, I have no problems with, there are a number of youtubers who write and produce music(Patty Walters). The problem is, this is just a weak EP, granted this is his first outing as a singer, songwriter etc, but this could have been genuinely good if the effort was there. It isn't.
The first thing you notice about all these song is that they are pandering to a certain demographic, I am willing to overlook such things every now and again but it's so lazily done, it is teetering on the edge of So bad its funny. The whole EP leans heavily on the cheesy side of pop punk, imagine "Nothing Personal" era All Time Low but even poppier and weaker songwriting. let's get started with opening track which is also the lead single, "Shut up and kiss me" this song isn't all that bad, but catchy melodies dont save the weak songwriting, the lyrics are laughable, but i could listen to this as background noise....if i could edit out Bryans voice.
"Tonight" and "Smile" are practically the same song, be happy and do whatever you want is the message here, it couldn't be anymore obvious even if there was a giant neon sign looming over it. It feels forced and he tries to ram this message down our throats, also swearing is certified edgy and cringeworthy here, it doesnt sound natural coming from Bryan. The title track is a lot of the same, lyrics and guitar work so cheesy you can taste it, non-existant bass and pandering, lots and lots of pandering.
A glaring problem here is that this is trying its damnedest to showcase Bryans voice, it just doesn't work as his voice isn't strong enough to carry the songs, there's no weight behind his singing, no emotional connection with him and his lyrics. If he can't connect with his own lyrics how can he expect listeners to? The songwriting as a whole is weak, this could have been interesting and unique, but Bryan didn't put any of his quirky personality that made his interviews such a hit into the EP, now instead of being quirky and dorky, like anything Bryan Stars should be it just comes off as half-assed, awkward and pandering.
