Excellent covers disc. Echoes of 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' are prevalent on many of the songs here (clearly Elfman was inspired by Weill). Nicely varied, containing some straightforward but nonetheless engaging material ("Ballad of the Soldier's Wife," "September Song") and some off-the-wall pieces too (John Zorn's "Der Kleine Leutnant des Lieben Gottes," "Call From the Grave / Ballad in Which MacHeath Begs All Men for Forgiveness"). Recommended-- the awful cover art belies some truly great interpretations.
