Simz's sophomore record is no slump, but it also doesn't really improve her debut. Flows, lyrics, beats, and atmosphere are on point but they do not reach the potent character of her later work.

Very exciting and interesting arrangement on some tracks here, and it reminded me not a small bit of flower boy, which I love, so this album and its release date were definitely an intriguing discovery for me

Legitimate fame is something that the vast majority of people will likely never experience, myself included. It's hard to understand just how insane it must be to go from being unknown to being a recognizable name, but it's a common theme among newcomers to that world. And if it's anything I've learned about it, it's that everyone experiences that transition differently. That's what Little Simz is grappling with on Stillness In Wonderland, and though it may not be on the same level conceptually or production-wise as her debut, it's still a worthwhile peek into the shifting life of Simbi. The production follows more jazzy tropes this time around, still sounding very nice but lacking some of the personality that made her debut so enthralling. Simbi herself sounds at home, though, as she flows effortlessly over the beats while putting down some nice bars, all the while sounding as confident and as on-point as ever. It's a bit of a step down from her debut, but it would be hard to call Stillness In Wonderland a regression, more of a shift in sound and thought mirroring its creator.
