3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | February 4th 17 | Choosing to go minimal in songwriting and sound can be a risky endeavor, as it can become so understated that it becomes boring. A Night Full Of Collapses employs a very minimal style of post-rock with some slight psychedelic leanings, and it both works and doesn't work. It works very well as background music, with a relaxing vibe and very subdued compositions. The sound of the record is pleasant enough as well, having a chamber music style to it all the while. It doesn't work all that well if the listener is attentively listening; the atmosphere isn't quite gripping enough to keep it from ultimately becoming boring to hear, and with how skeletal the compositions are, there's not a whole lot to grab from it. The vocals are done very well, but they're not in every tracks and even when they are they can only demand attention for so long. As study music, it's excellent. As active-listening music, it's lacking.
