Dragons on the cover, dragons on the album title, dragons in the song titles and use of every cliche in the symphonic metal book but somehow War of Dragons is a rewarding listen. Bloodbound are proven very good apprentices and still manage to release a fairly enjoyable album on which everything sounds as if it's been played before. Fans of Rhapsody, HammerFall and Sabaton will probably have a blast. Cynics beware, the amount of cheese on here will cause you stomachache.

Great sympho-power for listening to at a venue with friends and spirits, but the bar is considerably lowered when it comes to domestic listens or the album's life span.

While this album was generally real enjoyable to listen through, this band seems to sound quite a bit too close to
their influences. There are some moments where I was reminded of some of my favorite power metal albums like
Rhapsody's Symphony from Enchanted Lands and Stratovarius' Episode, but in all honesty, whenever I heard
this album, it reminded me of how great such musical achievements in power metal were rather than how great
Bloodbound are.

An enjoyable listen and all around a solid power metal album but after one listen that is enough. War of Dragons uses every old trick in the power metal arsenal and the overall experience sounds like an amalgamation of everything that has been accomplished in the genre previously; Bloodbound lack their own identity. Lyrics about flying in the sky, arpeggios ripping along, birds chirping along to synth flutes, a vocalist who wouldn't stand out in a power metal police lineup and standard modern metal production that lacks any beef in the sound, it just feels thin. Battle in the Sky and Dragons are Forever are the most energetic and consequently end up being the best tracks here. Bloodbound do nothing overtly bad but they do not stand out in the pack.
