Review Summary: The EP was the first release for the stoner-bands Dozer and Unida, and marked a solid start for both bands.
A short story first.
After the dissolution of Slo Burn, Unida was John Garcia's next project. In 1999, the swedish band Dozer and Unida appeared together on a split-release by MetorCity. Well that's about it, let's get going.
First to say, my only relation to Unida was the song "Wet Pussycat", liveversion on YouTube, that I knew was on the EP, but I had not heard anything about or from Dozer. I was expecting a good album, after all; John Garcia was singing. But this is a good album, really, really awesome. I was impressed. Not only because Unida kept the groove and hardhittingriff from Slo Burn and Kyuss, but also the music from the quite unknown band Dozer. I cannot point at one single weak song. They're either good, or totally rocking.
1. Flower Girl - Unida
The opening track to Unida and the the whole album. Really a kickass song, and one of my favourites. The guitar and bass is classic hard stoner, and Garcias voice is hard and crushing. The drums is posessed by what can be recognized as an angry Brant Bjork.
Rating [5/5]
2. Red - Unida
A ongoing song with a catching chorus. The guitars do their job. Not so much else to say. A very good song.
Rating [4,5/5]
3. Delta Alba Plex - Unida
A dragging, but still fast stonersong. This kicks almost anything out of it's way like a wave. Really cool.
Rating [5/5]
4. Wet Pussycat - Unida
I've heard the liveversion a couple of times, and I love it. But the album-version is a little softer. Garcias voice is soft, a little too soft sometimes by my opinion. The guitar plays an awesome riff like a machine through the song. At the end, Garcia goes insane on vocals, and it fades out.
Rating [4,5/5]
5. Headed for the Sun - Dozer
My first meeting with Dozer. The opening song is my favourite on the album. The song got a interesting rumbling guitar, while the singer fits everything perfectly.
Rating [5/5]
6. Calamari Sidetrip - Dozer
A slow song which remind me of Kyuss BftRS, especially Nordins voice. Heavy rythm, and cool guitar. This is a favourite for the fans.
Rating [5/5]
7. From Mars - Dozer
The rythm is going fast, like in a hurry. Not too much happening in this song, not much to say.
Rating [4/5]
8. Overheated - Dozer
Last song, and it's a good one. The rythm goes on like an avalanche. The vocals are amazing, like the rest of the band. It's like everyone is taking a farewell.
