With the name change to King Apathy, Thranenkind also transitioned into a fairly natural evolution
of the sound shown on The Elk. Where previously they were somewhere in the middle of an amalgam of
black metal, post rock, and melodic punk, here they shift further from black metal and more fully
into melodic hardcore. In the end King Apathy is chock full of solid twinkly post rock/punk hybrid
tracks and doesn't overstay it's welcome. It's more inclined to play around with punk tempos than
slow builds and climaxes, and while that doesn't automatically equate to less emotion, the result
is certainly less affecting that The Elk.
