3.5 great | MassiveAttack | September 11th 09 | The problem with Still is easily categorized. The beginning of the album starts off on a few bumps as it doesn't quite get its feet set until "The Only Mistake" is played, from there on Still manages to keep topping itself. The tough introduction to the album bogs the album down as a whole, but the rest of the material is usually more hit then miss. From rare outtakes and live recordings Still shows some forgotten material still left. Included in this solid collection of Joy Division material is "Isolation" and "Decades" to name a few. Some tracks do feel boring or uninspired "Sound of Music, "Glass", and "Sister Ray". Still remains to be in close similarity with New Order's early work as a band and only start depart a couple of years from their first album, showing that the band can still captivate without Curtis at the helm. Sadly, with his death their status was cemented as it was only started growing; with the demise of Joy Division comes New Order from its ashes.

5.0 classic | Richard777 | December 1st 21 | The darkest release of Joy Division in my opinion. The 7 first tracks are the coldest, darkest, most punitive songs recorded by the band. That sinuous and icy sounding synth that opens the first track, followed by some bass notes that become a hammering, hammering supported by a merciless drumming... Haunting.

3.5 great | y87arrow | July 19th 18 | I don't get how someone could call "Glass" boring or uninspired. It's in my top 10 songs of the
compilation "Substance". And Ice Age is strong too. But about the other songs I agree, Substance
is much stronger as a compilation.

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | March 25th 17 | Still is obviously a must grab for any self-professed Joy Division fan, but the reasons why are both obvious and subtle. The obvious: the first nine tracks are previously unreleased rarities that see Joy Division at their most bare this side of An Ideal For Living and show that they had a lot of punk spirit and songwriting talents at writing punk rock in and of itself. Not to mention that the live material here was the last Joy Division concert ever, and they even play "Ceremony" which is often credited to New Order. The subtle: that concert at High Hall on Birmingham University's campus showcases songs from their two full-lengths that sound more organic and human than ever, with the guitars much more upfront and the drums more hard-hitting. And let's not forget Ian Curtis' legendary live performances, which receive a nearly perfect (you can't hear him in the first verse of "Ceremony", unfortunately) documentation here. This comp, along with their own Substance compilation, are two of the most necessary compilations in post-punk, furthering the legacy of a truly wonderful band.

Anyway, while Joy Division beyond their two studio albums is filled with essential songs, a definitive organization of those songs doesn't really exist. I think this album has at least a few songs that can't be found elsewhere, like "Something Must Break", which I love. I don't feel like giving it a proper rating because it's not supposed to be an album in the first place.
