Review Summary: Blink 182 and Green Day had a baby who grew up to date Jimmy Eat World.
Hospital Job are a band that appear to have their influences on their sleeve. It's like someone took a typical Blink 182 song structure, sprinkled in some Green Day experimentation, and added some Jimmy Eat World guitars. It really is like a 90's-2000's showcase of the great pop-punk stylings of that era.
Songs like "Darts", "Mount Rushmore" and "Vicodin Dream" straight up kick you in the ass. The latter starts off with an electronic soundscape that sounds like its off of a different album. Then everything goes quiet, and the use of laid back guitar over the bass sounds amazing. You get the groove before the song explodes again. All within 2 minutes is pretty impressive.
No album is perfect and some songs are forgettable, songs like "Sheets in the Freezer" and "All Gone" don't quite grab your attention like the others do.
All together this is a very solid album, if you are into the pop-punk scene of yesteryear definitely give this one a try.
