Corpus Christi, out of Cincinnati, Ohio, looks to be an innovative band that will spawn imitators. However, one has to ask themselves how can you create imitators if you are an imitator? It is just basic press release bull*** about how band A is different from bands B-ZZZ. Corpus Christi is a band that does technical metalcore the right way. The album starts off fast and in your face and the guitars transform into a nice technical riff. The chorus on “
Parade Of Scars” is one of the best and shows how well the clean singing is done by the band. With about a minute left in the song, a great technical riff has been placed there. Sadly it’s short. Not to worry as the guitarists are clearly talented as shown throughout the rest of the songs, including the wonderful intro on “
It’s Always Darkest Before The Dawn”. The first solo, found on “
Marilyn”, is a beauty. “Marilyn” also has a top-notch breakdown before it goes to spoken words then to a clean verse.
The vocals are pulled off very well, and are varied enough to not be considered monotone. The band seems to have the experience to know when and how to use different vocals for the effect they want. They lyrics mostly deal with religion and some typical fare seen in all the other bands. The lyrics are not the best in the world, but they are by far not the worst. They still have room to improve in that department though, so it is okay. The drummer loves to keep his foot on the double bass pedal, but he does add a lot to the songs.
Corpus Christi are great craftsmen that know how to write great songs.
