Release Date: 2003 | Tracklist

OK, a disclaimer, this is my first review so if this seems shoddy/disorganized, *** you

Well I would put a band lineup that would be current for this album, but anybody who is familiar with Napalm Death knows that they go through band members like days of the week. And since this is a carerring spanning compilation album, well you get the idea, so this is who Napalm Death is CURRENTLY
Vocals: Mark "Barney" Greenway
Guitar: Mitch Harris
Drums: Danny Herrera
Bass: Shane Embury

Now also if you've read the tracklisting of the album you'd know it has 56 tracks, so to do a track by track would not only be time consuming, but i highly doubt that anybody but me would read it. So I'll just do that Highlights

Disc1
Track 3: You Suffer: Ah yes, the infamous "You Suffer" World Record holder for worlds shortest song, the track itself is 6 seconds long but the audio clocks in at only 3/4 of a second, blink and you miss it, this is the idiom of Napalm Death, Fast Heavy, and totally Unitelligable.

Track 14: Lucid Fairytale: This track is pretty much nonstop blast beats and riffing, but what sets it apart is instead of just cookie monster growling theres some black metal shreiks thrown in for good measure, and I just find the riff extremely catchy.

Track 29: Nazi Punks *** Off: This is special because it just so happens to be a Dead Kennedys cover, its actually quite good if you've heard the original, not tha faithful but a good cover.

Disc2
Tracks 3-6: The Mentally Murdered EP: Mentally Murdered, Walls of Confinement, Cause and Effect, No Mental Effort: This is Napalm Death in their Prime, they ditched the hyper speed song times but kept the hyper speed tempos for an all our assualt on the ears, the riffs are brutal and blunt and the drums are just pounding, this would be my introductory course to Napalm Death to anyone who hadn't heard them before.

Track 8: Avalanche Master Song (live): This is another cover, sort of, its a Godflesh cover which is a band that had former Napalm Death members in it. It is the total antithesis of what this band does. The tempo is at a crawl and the drums are very sparse, the only things really the same are the heavy distortion and the growly vocals. its almost painful to sit through its so repetitive, but thats part of the fun

There are more standout songs, but these are just the ones that I thought people HAD to know about because really even though I am a HUGE fan of Napalm Death there is only so much you can say about their musical style, eventually you run out of mean sounding adjectives.

So Overall I gave this album a 4 out of 5 stars just because I think it is a very good career retrospective of what the band had done thus far, and the inclusion of demos and rare trax made it a cool buy for real fans, but obviously this isn't a classic record that everyone has to own so its doesn't really deserve 5 stars.

Thats it, so any questions and comments can go to that magic comment box thing thats under this review.

Fixed. Is it just me or are they uncannily similar? :-/ I can't stand Napalm Death and I've never heard this album, but good review, especially for a first effort. This Message Edited On 09.25.05
