History:
This album was in progress when Jimi died on Sept. 18, 1970. After his death the tracks were originally released in 3 separate EP's, The Cry Of Love, Rainbow Bridge and War Heroes. It was recorded with Billy Cox on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums.
Sound:
Jimi believed this album to be a new creative rebirth for him and it features a very new sound that is somewhat different from Jimi other work. Its styles range from the funky rythyms in Dolly Dagger and Ezy Rider to the improvised blues jam in My Friend to a peaceful R&B ballad in Drifting.
Who it sounds like:
Although his style has changed in this album, Jimi still remains a very unique artist, perhaps even more so than before.
Favorite songs:
I love every single song on this album and it also contains my favortite Jimi song ever, which is Hey Baby (New Rising Sun). Other tracks that i especially enjoy are Ezy Rider, My Friend, Angel and Belly Button Window.

The CD booklet contains a paragraph or more story about every song including when it was recorded, how complete the recording was, and any special quirks of the song.
This was the first album recorded in Jimi's Electric Lady Studios, and therefore it is the first album Jimi had a major hand in recording and producing. Jimi meticulously tweaked and mixed and re-recorded every track on this album to make it the best he could. Unfortunatly his death brought an end ot his perfection; if it hadn't i believe this would be one of Jimi's most influential albums and the dawning of another new era for rock music.
Its a must own for Hendrix fans
