Hailing from Finland is Entwine, a gothic rock act among the likes of H.I.M. and Lacuna Coil. Dieversity is their first outing with their new vocalist Mika Tauriainen. The music itself is interesting, much more so than other bands of this genre. The band is tight on this album and alot of the tracks are great. This albums downfall is it's lack of diversity, which is odd, considering it is named dieversity, but anyhow. Many of the tracks are great, but only a few stand out.
Vocals:
The vocals on this album are decent. Mika Tauriainen has a good vocal range, and his melodies are definetely catchy. Sometimes, especially in the chorus' of some songs, I find his voice, and his melodies, resemble that of Chad Kroeger. All in all, the vocals are definetely up to scratch, better than their old vocalist anyhow.
Guitar:
Entwine's music is very guitar oriented, as most rock music is. The riffs produced by Tom Mikkola and Jaani Kähkönen are solid and they seem to write well together.
Bass:
Joni Miettinen, the bands bassist, holds up the low end quite well. His basslines add a groove to the song, that otherwise wouldn't be there, very creative, but not too noodly. The bassline in Bleeding For The Cure is definetely one of the best on the album. It's good, solid bass playing.
Keyboards:
The keyboards are provided by the band's only female member, Riitta Heikkonen. The keyboards on this album are mainly used for atmosphere, though there are a few solos, one particular moment being at the beginning of Still Remains.
Drums:
The drumming on this album is nothing special, it's just solid and keep the beat. The drum beats fit the songs well, they aren't too crazy or out there, but he isn't repeating the same beat over and over.
Pros:
The band is tight musically
Good songwriting
Excellent rhythm section, good solid playing on that end.
Cons:
The songs get a bit stale and start to sound the same after awhile.
It lacks diversity.
Recommended Tracks:
Bleeding For The Cure - easily the best track on the album, excellent in everywhere, the bassline especially, a cool guitar solo aswell, it's kind of funky/jazzy but keeps the rock feel.
Bitter Sweet- Just a good hard rocking song.
Still Remains- Cool keyboard lead throughout the song, especially at the intro, and a very catchy vocal melody in the chorus.
