3.4 great | Voivod STAFF | March 6th 21 | If Empyrean shows anything, it's that these Swedes have progressed considerably since their first EPs. However, they have a relatively long way to go before being considered a notable tech thrash outfit. Their debut has strengths that can be translated as shortcomings at once. Sound work has been adjusted to highlight the admittedly spectacular lead guitar work, but at the same time, the rhythm guitars lack the requisite aggression that's expected from the genre. Moreover, the rhythm section is mostly linear. Paranorm just need to become heavier and apply themselves in the investigation of the tech thrash maze, the way Aspid, old Mekong Delta or 1990 Megadeth did it back in the day. 3.5 great | Chino smoking it up! | March 8th 21 | Solid Swede thrash death debut, great production. I like the more accessible Vektor comparison, also catching sort of glam swede metal from bands like Tribulation, much provided by the similar vocals. Guitar leads tones are pretty damn straight beautiful.r

2.0 poor | YellowVoid | February 26th 21 | They try to be creative and progressive with their songs, but it just ends up sounding like independent riffs plastered together. The guitar wank-fest also gets annoying (and this is coming from a guitarist).

4.0 excellent | Dmax28 | February 24th 21 | Ripping album. If you can get past some sameness in some riffs and rhythms every track on here has something great to offer. It reminds me of a more accessible Vektor. Love the production. The guitars are so clear while still sounding organic.
