Review Summary: Fun, creative, and energetic, but is this what the fans wanted?
Despite being on tour constantly, Andy LaPlagua somehow manages to put use his creative talents to put out music. Heat EP: All Pain is Beatis the second remix EP from 2009's "Today We Are All Demons", but this EP is definitely different from mostly everything Combichrist has ever released, thanks to a large change in style.
Instead of boiling rage and aggression, Heat offers club-friendly, crowd-pleasing sounds that may or may not appeal to LaPlagua's fanbase. Heat EP is very inviting. All the anger and testosterone that fuels LaPlagua's music has been watered down into something that almost any dance club could play without fear.
With that being said, most of the music is good, with some impressive and inventive
remix work by VNV Nation, Desinger Drugs, and Assemblage 23, along with some lesser-names as well. Much of the music will definitely get your body moving, (the exceptional mix of All Pain is Gone by VNV will definitely get the energy flowing on the dancefloor) and while the Can't Change the Beat mixes suffer from a bit of an identidy crisis (Assemblage 23's mix not withstanding), everything here has something to offer.
Its a fair bet that many hardcore Combichrist fans will not enjoy this offering, though. The lighthearted nature of this release may not be what some fans may have wanted (or expected), but those who are willing to accept deviation from the norm will diffenitely find something here to enjoy.
