WARNING: SPOILER ALERT
in this review, i give away some of the jokes in the songs. I won't exactly tell you the whole story, but there will be some giveaways. I'll try to restrain myself =)
This is my first review, so cut me some slack...
Stephen Lynch is an extremely funny man, who, armed with his guitar and a twisted sense of humor, will either make you laugh, gag, or both at the same time. His song topics can range from abortion to hermaphrodites, from fat ugly women to horny college professors. His material is not for the weak of heart, and i guarentee you that, not unlike a episode of South Park, his material will find some way to offend you.
Now for the review.
1. Vanilla Ice Cream
This song is a pretty good album opener, and is much like "Talk to Me" from his last album "Superhero", although not quite as nasty. It is about how he prefers black girls over white girls. To each his own. 4.5/5
2. Baby
Classic. Starts off innocent, then takes a vicious turn. Absolutely hilarious song, probably my favorite song about babies. 5/5
3. Halloween
This song will render you speechless. If you love children and they're Hallowwen antics, do not listen to this song. All i will say is that 'Hansel and Gretal' came to mind when i heard this little jewel...4/5
4. Love Song
I didnt really like this one. The lyrics are cheesy and cliche at the beginning, and the song ends with a seemingly random punch line. Not that funny, but still ok. 2/5
5. Craig
This is a great take on Monty Python's 'Life of Brian', and basically is told from the perspective of Jesus's brother Craig, who is quite the party animal. Great song. 4.5/5
6. Beelz
My favorite track on the album. The song is about satan, and thats all you need to know. 5/5
7. Albino
A tender song about 2 of Stephen's loves: An albino and an old woman. Fantastic ending, but the albino part wasnt that funny. 4/5
8. Mixer at Delta Chi
Another gem. Its about a randy professor who seduces a female student. A lot of puns, maybe a few too many. 4.5/5
9. Tiny Little Moustache
Um...this song was a tad strange. The main character's girlfriend is a neo-Nazi. This one wasn's gut-bustingly hilarious, but should get a few chuckles. 3.5/5
10. Pierre
A couple friends join Steve in this sing about a French bum in New York. Decent, but not as good as the songs on the 1st half of the album. 3/5
11 Whittlin' Man
One word: terrible. The song got almost no laughs from the crowd at all. Its bout a guy who whittles everything. Oh boy. 1/5
12. Classic Rock song
It DOES sound like a classic rock song. Except for the end, which is kinda immature and random. 2/5
13. Not Home
A quickie but a goodie. Appeals to the person who has ever been really lonely after their grilfriend leaves for a while...4/5
14. Voices in My head
Another great song. Steve's friends act as the voices in his head, and say some pretty weird things. Quite funny. 4.5/5
15. D&D
Not listed on the back of the case, but its on the a,bum nonetheless. Basically a performance of the same 'D&D' from "Superhero" except slightly longer and with better singing. Still a great song though. A great way to finish up the album. 5/5
Overall, "The Craig Machine" is hilarious, although not quite as good as Superhero. Some say that Stephen lynch is losing his touch, but i disagree. With htis album, he;s back and as disturbing as ever
Overall rating: 4/5, Excellent
