Review Summary: Finland rules.

As most of us know, the death metal scene in the 90's, specifically the early 90's, was pretty amazing. There were plenty of classics to come out of it and it's often hard to put your finger on which one was the best. With that being said, Adramelech's debut album Psychostasia is without a doubt in the top 25 death metal albums ever made, making it yet another classic death metal album to come out of Finland. I don't know what the hell they put in the water over there, but Finland has always been the premier area for producing death metal and it remains that way even today.

Psychostasia has a very interesting style of production to it. It obviously has the feeling of old-school death metal with the muddy production, but it also adds a new flavor to what was going on back then. You'll hear a, for lack of a better term, "cosmic" sound to it. Listen about 2 and a half minutes into Heroes in Godly Blaze and you'll know what I mean by that. There's a certain echoing to the riffs and it gives off that kind of vibe. Oh and speaking of riffs, there's plenty of them. If you were to listen to one death metal album for the rest of your life that riffs harder than the rest of them, this album would definitely be in the running. Once again, it must be a Finnish thing because Finnish death metal bands riff harder than any other bands in the genre while still keeping a certain sense of melody to make them memorable. The vocals here are pretty top notch as well. Think of the "burping" vocals of Demilich, just not as hardcore. It's more of a grunt/burping sound instead of a full on belch. Either way, they rule.

Fans of the death metal genre need this album, no question about it. Then again, if you're a real death metal fan then you probably already have/worship this album, so you have nothing to worry about. If you don't have it, then stop being a vagina, take your tampon out, and listen to it already and riff hard. m/
