Review Summary: a deep and dark ocean of emotions crushing you with dark ambient and industrial metal. Prepare to be scared

Before cinematograph was invented people enjoyed radio performances. It was both hard for actors and listeners. First ones’ must be incredibly talented and get into character to make people believe them. And listeners must have a good fantasy to imagine all those things in their heads. Nowadays we can enjoy movies everywhere we want - new technologies made it possible. But no matter how good they are, sometimes we want to enjoy black and white silent movies - connoisseurs say that the absence of sounds allows you to focus on acting.

And Sevaskars’ “Skar City” is something like old-styled radio performances that blend experimental rock with elements of ambient and outmoded warm sounds of vinyl records. That sounds quite odd but with the first sounds of “Future Ruins” come your way you will understand that. Through the noise and drone of this ambient track a wonderful melody is pouring out. One track replaces another, noise and drums overflow into synth sounds and punk rock blends into instrumental ambient. If you listen to all tracks separately you couldn't get the idea of the whole cinematic concept of this album. It’s a whole story told by the music language. Just close your eyes and let the tune rouse your feelings and emotions.

Some tracks will definitely tell you a story of fights - drums and barrels set the belligerent rhythm, synth waves muffle them and spread adrenaline through your veins. You dissolve in a ragged rhythm and feel powerful as never before. And then the track changes to the next one and you find yourself somewhere far away from a raging battle carried away by the melancholic ambient melody that caresses you with gentle sounds of violins and piano. You feel yourself in the middle of void imbued with this thespian and mournful but yet magnificent melody. You peacefully float in its sounds and then suddenly the melody alters with the following track change. Uproar and rustle send tingles along the spine and you feel fear entwined deep inside you. Through the noisy bit pierces a disturbing melody.

Tracks replace each other like the waves on the sand and each one brings new emotions and feelings - one will bring serenity and ease, another will evoke sorrow and grief, third will unleash savagery. I strongly recommend you not to divide this precious masterpiece into separate tracks - let the whole story pass through you and draw the storyline.

What will your story be like? Will it be a tale of struggle and betrayal? Or will it be about love and loss? Dive in and find this out.
