This was NOFX's 6th studio album, a follow up to the widley popular Punk in Drublic, this cd was a somewhat faster and stranger side of NOFX, with weird sounding lyrics and progressive bass and guitar.Heres what i thought of each song on the album:
1.
Hobophobic(scared of bums): This is definatley a good start to the album, with a fast bassline at the beggining and funny lyrics, this is a typical NOFX sounding song that almost everyone can like. 4.5/5
2.
Philthy Phil Philanthropist: A very catchy ska/punk song with a fun bassline, this is definatley my favourite song on the album, fun to listen to and also has good lyrics. 5/5
3.
Freedom Lika Shopping Cart: This is probably the worst song on the album in my opinion, i still like it but compared to the others, it comes up short, this song had god lyrics but just didnt sound like the kind of song most NOFX fans are familiar with, this song is listenable but there are just better ones on the album. 2.5/5
4.
Bleeding Heart Disease:This song was weird to me, at first listen i didnt like it much, but now its one of my favourites and i love it and consider it one of the best on the album, i guess this song just needs to grow on you. Good lyrics and typical NOFX instrument playing. 4/5
5.
Hotdog In A Hallway: This is one of the songs that make this album a weird one, funny but weird lyrics this song is about being in love with a "bigger" than average girl and has a weird sound to it compared to other NOFX songs, but it is still one of my favourites.4/5
6.
Release The Hostages:I liked this song, its about being lonely and turning to alcohol for a way out. A very agressive/cool bassline at the begginning and a cool sound to the song overall.3.5/5
7.
Liza:This is one strange song.I still am not sure what exactly its about, i think its about a lesbian who goes from a hardcore sex addict back to a normal person, but im still not sure.Cool sound and is one of the songs that make this record what it is.3.5/5
8.
Whats The Matter With Kids Today?: I just plain do not like this song, i dont know what it is but i just dont like the sound of it, or the way Mike sings in it, this album is full of songs different to their past ones but this one may be just a little too different.I liked the lyrics though.2.5/5
9.
Love Story:This song grew on me, another song that takes a few listens before totally likeable. A slow build up with strange lyrics to an explosive ending, good song, very similar to the song Reeko off of Punk in Drublic.4/5
10.
The Black and White:Once again another song that needs to grow on a person, very strange lyrics but they made me think. I really liked the guitars in this one and the overall sound of the song, one of my favourites.4.5/5
11.
Whatever Didi Wants:This was a very fun song to me, i love the lyrics because they are realistic "i wouldnt climb the highest mountain, might get a blister, but almost anything" a feel good song and i liked it alot.4/5
12.
August 8th: Strange song, i dont really know what its about, i think this song could have many meanings and it depends on listener interpretation, sort of slow but also has some heavier parts, i also liked this song alot.4/5
13.
Drop The World: This is one amazing song, i liked everything about this one, it had good instrument playing (aswell as some trombone in there) and some really great lyrics that anyone could relate to in my opinion, this song was a great way to end the album, it fit perfectly, definatly a favourite.5/5
Well that is how i saw this CD. Id say anyone who liked any of NOFX's ealier or older work will love this CD, at first it will seem strange but this Cd will definatly grow on you. If you like any of the following you will like this for sure:
Punk in Drublic
Ribbed
White Trash Two Heebs and a Bean
So Long and Thanks For All the Shoes
Overall i give this cd a 4/5, a must own for any fans of NOFX.
This was my first review so i hope i did a good job :)
