Review Summary: Basic? Not quite. Future Palace are a mix of Spiritbox, and Icon For Hire’s Scripted album. Future Palace play heavy rock/post-hardcore fairly well, despite a lack of claim to fame. The godawful hip-hop verse in the song Flames is a miscalculation, but generally, Run hits. Run is a squeaky clean album with an undisguised dependence on pop hooks. The result is something quite catchy. At times I was reminded of the best moments of Paramore. In truth, there’s a lot of bands I could compare Future Palace to, but the female singer/screamer gives the band a unique vibe.
Songs are engaging, with a post-hardcore edge just present enough to get the blood flowing. It’s a solid album with a great female vocalist. Like Spiritbox, I could imagine her clean vocals working great in a pop album. She sings with variety, suddenly hitting high notes, and a delicious collection of buttery smooth falsettos. The vocal production is a little obvious, but it’s a minor distraction. She is also the harsh vocalist, and I didn’t see this one coming. Her screams are blistering, adding a much needed heavy dose of adrenaline to tracks. She sounds great in either direction, and is easily Future Palace’s claim to fame.
There’s certainly a large market for this, and while I was hesitant at the start, I couldn’t help myself liking it. Run is a little pop/chorus heavy, but it produces a smooth sound, with a beautiful intention on rhythmic melodies. Future Palace remain above average, thanks to an impressive frontwoman. Vocals fit like a glove into this cohesive effort and are the highlight. Run is a crowd pleasing album that dances on the fence between heaviness and accessibility with intensity.

The new release = good. 🕺🏻
| | | Album aside right now, you never name the vocalist's actual name – let alone the other band members. Instead, you refer to Maria only as "she", "her", the *female* singer/screamer, before making brash comparisons to vocalists who frankly bare little-to-no resemblance to Future Palace's sound or influence. Seeing as this review primarily focuses on grasping for straws in a "who's who" of core/scene vocals, it would have been nice to see educated, apt comparisons. Maria doesn't sound like Hayley from Paramore; the Spiritbox and Icon For Hire comparisons in your opening sentence feel like lazy name-drops from someone who probably needs to hear more music to make a meaningful connection to other vocalists (and please, stop with the *female-fronted is a genre* energy.) I barely use this site outside of checking weekly releases and occasionally the blog interviews, and I guess literally anyone can submit reviews regardless of competence; but after 200+ reviews I'd expect much higher quality than whatever rushed nothingness you're aimlessly spewing out here. This review is devoid of any meaningful information and blatantly lacks the research required for an acceptable review on this site. I won't check but maybe the next review you submit will be less careless.

I didn’t expect this review to be so polarizing. To be fair, the comparison to Paramore was out of left field, as was Icon For Hire to some degree. I fail to see how Spiritbox was a lazy namedrop considering the band themselves compare themselves to them. Like I said in the review, there were a lot of bands I could have compared them to but I chose to not do so. I believe a band should be able to stand by itself, I personally feel like if I give too many comparisons to other bands it doesn’t give the band enough credit. I actually listen to a lot of music, and I am in constant search for new artists. I agree that female-fronted is not a genre, and I did not say it was. I indeed do research, and I did not rush this review. This was simply how I felt and what I thought about the album, and clearly you have other opinions. Thank you for reading and for your constructive criticism which I find valuable. With more opinions on my reviews I will better understand how people truly feel about my reviews.

Neither of their albums did it for me outside of a couple songs. They don't vary their songwriting enough.

As far as Bookends, he claimed to understand Future Palace’s sound and influence, yet also said he wouldn’t check out the album. He didn’t know what he was talking about.

Yeah! Good album.

Spiritbox comparison is easy to make for sure, but this is a diff vibe. I'd say this is much more similar to As Everything Unfolds. Poppier vocals with the screams mixed in. Maria rules though no doubt.

Haven’t heard of them, I’ll check em out.

Def recommend if you dig this. Similar vibes. I've got Maria as the better screamer but Charlie does alright and her cleans are real nice.
