3.0 good | Erwann S. STAFF | October 22nd 24 | Indeed it's kind of a shame how dull this turns, given how great Chinouriri's formula of soulful indie pop rock can get in its best moments.

3.0 good | ajcollins15 | May 11th 24 | Rachel Chinouriri?s debut album, ?What a Devastating Turn of Events,? presents a noteworthy foray into indie music, marked by her adept execution and clear homage to classic indie influences. The standout element of the album, however, is Rachel?s angelic R&B/soul vocals. Her voice, both powerful and emotive, promises great potential for a distinct and evolving sound as her career progresses. While there are many strengths to admire, the album does encounter a lull with some bland instrumentals that permeate the middle sections. This contrasts starkly with the more compelling tracks that bookend the album, highlighting inconsistencies in engagement and energy. Overall, ?What a Devastating Turn of Events? is a promising debut that shows significant potential. As Rachel matures as an artist, her unique sound is sure to crystallize, potentially elevating her future work to new heights.

3.0 good | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | May 5th 24 | Sadly, even if her mighty pop fusion into indie rock is often successful and some of the songs are indeed great, the first single off the album released 2 whole years prior (!), "All I Ever Asked", somehow remained the highest high on this. Somehow it all drags on a bit, varies not that much, despite the stylistic shifts and twists at every turn, and her vocals turn out not to carry well over a longer runtime.
