4.0 excellent | Lewis EMERITUS | October 1st 24 | A strange and vibrant pop album. I am struck by just how effective SOPHIE is on its own terms, and would have once considered this a refreshingly minor work on the way to bigger, more avant ideas, were we so lucky. Perhaps her brother could have lied about how much was finished, and I would have believed him. The album must now bear the weight of its namesake, assembled by family and friends as tribute. The attribution can be amended as such: "...and Friends," for the doubters. But it feels right, in the end, to accept the story as written: a nearly-completed collaborative album has since been completed by the people who knew the artist best, and who were foundational to the process of making the album to begin with; a collaboration that feels at peace with the life it channels because of something central and unknowable about its creation. Perhaps it's delusion. But I find it quite moving in its explorations of change and belonging, of finding the forever in the disappearing, in the illustrative way it pivots from expansive, existential ambiance into plasticine bangers about flexing and deserving. RIP SOPHIE, you would have loved SOPHIE.

2.0 poor | iGuter | October 6th 24 | It almost feels disrespectful to even regard this as a send off to an incredible artist like SOPHIE. The beating heart that made her unique is not present and without her center stage, the end result ends up feeling like it was lost in translation. A handful of good tracks does not do justice to her legacy.

3.0 good | gryndstone | October 2nd 24 | its just too obviously an unfinished product not by the musician. Feels like people took a bunch of random demos and applied their own version of 'sophie' polish on them. I guess thats the nature of a posthumous release.

2.5 average | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | September 30th 24 | I was hoping for a more realised vision (as realised as a posthumous release can be), considering the involved personnel, but in the end we got a sketchbook of idea mostly thrown about in chaos and organised uncohesively. At this state, should have just released the master tapes and called it a compilation instead of trying to string it together.
