It pains me a bit to hear how average Ashbury Heights, a top notch synthpop duo, has become. With their new album Take Cair Paramour there is a large collection of songs that either have very annoying vocals to offer, or nothing else. In terms of music and vocals, nothing has really changed from their older material, but personally I found an absence of hooks and especially catchy choruses. Unfortunately, this is made even worse because the album is 14 tracks long and for such an album to be this long makes it a chore to listen to. Luckily, the second last track Unbearable Beauty satisfies my synthpop hunger with a great chorus and an amazing use of vocoding. But like I said before, due to the dullness of the twelve tracks before this track, I could have easily missed it by simply shutting off the cd about halfway through.
