The original Blues Brothers movie, released in 1980 is now considered a cult classic, even though it was not originally a hit in cinemas. The movie was a story of two criminal brothers, who were in a blues band. It was a musical/comedy. It starred John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, who had gained fame playing the blues brothers on Saturday Night Live. Soon after its release, the band from the movie, made up of already well-respected musicians toured the world, and recorded numerous albums. This review is for the digitally remastered version of the original soundtrack recording.

This album was released in 1995 and I have liked it for so long. It features so many great musicians, such as Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn, Matt Murphy, Lou Marini and Alan Rubin.

This is a great blues album and every track stands out, and while listening to it you'll be reminded of the movie. Every track flows really well and the production is great. I'm not a huge fan of blues but this album is great when I'm in the mood. Based on the number of immortal blues legends on this album, if you like any blues, you'll like this. Every song is great, and there are no weak spots, except for Theme From Rawhide, which is still a good song.

-Incomplete (A few tracks left off)

Overall
I quite like this album, but I am not a huge fan of Blues so I don't play it regularly. There are no major flaws in this album and anyone who likes blues will enjoy this.

4/5 - Exceptional within the Genre. Something good for introducing someone to the genre but probably wouldn't change his or her mind about it.

Aw man. This reminded me how cool the movie is. I gotta go out and rent it soon. Anyway, this is a pretty good album. Some of my obvious favorites are "Jailhouse Rock", "Sweet Home Chicago", "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love", and then there are songs like "Think", or Gime Some Lovin'". Cool album, you're right about it not changing anyones mind but still fun. Great review, great movie, great everything...

Speaking of The Blues Brothers, I live in Chicago *Isn't a Nazi :lol:*, I go down town about each year to see the big chase at the end of the movie reacted, though it's done a lot slower.

Awesome soundtrack. The movie is hilarious too.

And Rawhide does own. My favorite song from this is probably Sweet Home Chicago or Jailhouse Rock.

Donald "Duck" Dunn is a great bassist. This cd and movie introduced me to Booker T. and the MG's, so that makes it even more awesome. Steve Cropper is a great guitarist too.

Dumb question, but is the "Theme from Rawhide" really the "Theme from Rawhide"? If so, my grandfather used to sing that song to us back in the day when I was 4-5 years old and I loved it more than anything else. This seems like a cool album to pick up.

The song they sing in the movie is a cover of the show Rawhide, yes. I'm not stretching very far to assume that it's the same on the CD(which I will be sure to pick up)

Ha nirvanachild, the first time I saw the movie, I was so obsessed with it, that I watched it the next two nights as well. Seeing Blues Brothers 3 days in a row was good.



And yeah, Morrissey, it's definitely worth picking up. Just such a fun album to listen to. But the music is great too. I only wish they included John Lee Hooker's song on the soundtrack. But they didn't because none of the blues brothers actually played on the recording.

This album is a feel-good blues classic, the film also owns. No way is the rawhide theme a negative! This is probably the best soundtrack I've heard.
