4.4 superb | manosg EMERITUS | April 21st 17 | Absolutely blistering live album by Deep Purple less than a month before the release of Machine Head (you can listen to Ian Gillan introducing "Highway Star" as a song which will open their live shows in the future). In terms of performance, this lies somewhere between the jam heavy Live in Stockholm 1970 and the more refined Made in Japan. The mixing is slightly weird in the beginning with the vocals and drums being quite loud but that doesn't really ruin the experience as Gillan and Paice are on fire. Of course, Blackmore and Lord are at the peak of their abilities exchanging solos and as the show progresses we can listen to the underrated Roger Glover playing some great lines. An additional detail which works in favor of this LP, is that it was recorded during a single show which presents to the listener a genuine early-'70s Deep Purple live. Lastly, a rare live rendition of "Fireball" is included which is an added bonus.
