About the album
Obviously,
80-85 is just a repackaging of
Bad Religion's 1982 debut album
How Could Hell Be Any Worse?. The repackaging was released in 1991, nine years after the release of
How Could Hell Be Any Worse?. It also includes all songs from the two EPs
Bad Religion (1981) and
Back to the Known (1984) and three tracks from
Public Service. The whole album runs 56 minutes.
80-85 didn't include their 1983 second full-length album
Into the Unknown, likely due to it's genre changing and time of unpopularity. After the release of that album, the band took a five year break before releasing their critically acclaimed release
Suffer in 1988.
The band has been playing
REAL PUNK ROCK for years, their sound has been changing through out the years.
What I like about this album
I bought
80-85 on CD a couple years ago and enjoyed their journey back to their humble beginnings very much. First of all before I bought
80-85, I didn't know
Bad Religion had any albums before
Suffer.
The sound is great, I don't think I have anything negative to say about it. The guitar sound is excellent like on any other Bad Religion albums. The bass and drum sound is also good.
The lyrics are probably one of the albums best parts. "We're Only Gonna Die" has some of the best "Early man walks away as modern man, took control, weren't all the same to conquer was their goal", where
Greg Graffin began to sing the song and "nice going spazz", the intro to "Frogger", which appeared on
Back to the Known.
