Review Summary: A completely different approach from the man who "Ruined Dubstep"

In previous EP's we have seen variances in genre and style from his usual sound of metal inspired grime: think "Sunsets", "Afro Blue", "Thoughts", "Favourite Things" (or "Tingz"); but we have never seen an EP that is universally different altogether. Borgore is definitely evolving into a completely different beast.

The tune "Delicious" features an upbeat intro that dissolves into a catchy drop that features melodies usually unseen in Borgore tracks. The rap in this tune is nothing to speak of and follows the general "don't take me seriously" attitude that Borgore lives by.

"Gloryhole" (the worst of the album and one of the reasons I rated this less than Excellent) features a rather annoying background voice, complimented with a (legimately excellent) drum and hi-hat pattern, which again dissolves into a more classic borgore tune littered with blowjob gulps and devil roars. The biggest complaint with this track is the ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE rapping, which despite the fact that it is not to be taken seriously anyway; feels completely out of place in this track.

"Someone Else's" is interesting... Very seldom do you see an instrumental version of a song that makes you feel and react so much differently from the original. Nonetheless, in this song, you absolutely do. Whereas the instrumental is a legitimate drum and bass head-bobber to be listened to almost ambiently, the original is essentially the equivalent of a rapper's love song and therefore COMPLETELY risks Borgore's image; however it actually works. This version actually makes you listen to Borgore's lyrics for once, and I think in this track he finally wants to be taken seriously. With lyrics speaking of real heartbreak and loss complimented by a great drum and bass backing this is by far the most thematically different (and in my opinion the best) track in this album - * DONE BY BORGORE *.

The final song is a remix of "Someone Else's" by Document One: a british dubstep duo, and is definitely the most fun to be had in this EP. Despite featuring distorted samples in the actual drop which I find far too similar to Skrillex, this tune keeps you mesmerized with the very chill house inspired intro that includes absolutely incredible synth harmonization, and then completely jars you with a rather unexpected drop: a drop that may even have been worth excluding... It is also as I implied my favourite track on the album.

As a conclusion, this is not a Borgore fan's EP. But it is an excellent EP in it's own right. My biggest gripe about it is that Gloryhole and Delicious seem broken as the vocal versions do not enhance the original (instrumentals) whatsoever, but rather degrade their potential. Obviously the most redeeming quality in this album is the diversity between the three "Someone Else's" tracks as each version has something different - yet equally amazing to offer.

The tune "Delicious" simply put, isn't exactly Dubstep... It fits more into the Drumstep category

How can you have loops in the drop? That's impossible

Excuse me, that's my mistake. Loops should be changed to Samples. I can't however agree with you that delicious is NOT drumstep, as it absolutely is. Drumstep is defined by having a slower bpm in the drum loops: which it absolutely has.

I tripped and hurt myself on that comma there.

"I tripped and hurt myself on that comma there."

I myself would pause at that point in regular speech. I legitimately thank you though for not being rude though.

Well seeing as how drumstep is nothing more than a stupid blog genre that doesn't actually exist my point still stands

Putting commas in where you would stop while speaking is a terrible attempt at proper grammar.

How should I alter it so that it fits your liking? Shall I call it "somewhere in between DnB and Dubstep", or something else altogether. Btw I am quite seriously asking for your imput.

It's rather impossible to categorize electronic music these days, but the less complex the better. I'll get to changing that.

It's not impossible at all. The only thing that seems to make it that way is when people (not saying you're one of them) come across something that's ever so slightly different, and while racked with indecision as to what they should label it in their itunes they come up with some silly new tag

"Oh my god, this dubstep is slightly faster than normal. Better call it drumstep". Because dubstep isn't influenced by d & b in the slightest already....

Ahaha no kidding, I was actually just trying to use that term so I WOULDN'T piss off anyone (you never know how people think on different sites) and I was just gonna leave that out altogether in the first place.

Agree again, but I've heard people say that dubstep is the same as drum and bass and that the term is only around because people were "racked with indecision". I don't know the solution, but I do know the sooner people stop nitpicking about how an artist SHOULD sound and what DEFINES a genre, the sooner people can spout less biased opinions about things (solving world hunger :P ).

Lol, whoever said that should be shot. Dubstep was a term coined by the artists who decided to experiment with garage by bringing in a lot of dub overtones. This was about 12 years ago now
