Kill and Eat started a while ago when Caleb Vogel decided to write music. It started as a one-man band with Caleb playing all of the instruments. Relying heavily on his Ben Folds influence, Caleb wrote many songs, considered by many to be very poppy. He released two albums by himself, his first being The Greatest Hits, followed by the fan favorite, Skytree. After Skytree was released, he joined forces with minimalist drummer Steve Rockey. Kill and Eat started a while ago when Caleb Vogel decided to write music. It started as a one-man band with Caleb playing all of the instruments. Relying heavily on his Ben Folds influence, Caleb wrote many songs, considered by many to be very poppy. He released two albums by himself, his first being The Greatest Hits, followed by the fan favorite, Skytree. After Skytree was released, he joined forces with minimalist drummer Steve Rockey. They played a couple of shows, then Steve decided to leave. It was then that Clarke Joyner stepped in. They kept playing pop shows, mostly in small venues such as houses and coffee shops. They gradually went for more of an experimental approach to pop, bordering on noise and free jazz. Eventually, they recorded a new album, Green Bushes, which was released both as a material copy, and as a free download from their website (killandeat.com). The three track epic is very repetative, leaving the listener not sure of what to think about the music. Their live shows are a different matter entirely. Caleb plays through a low-quality keyboard through a distortion pedal and a guitar amp. This causes their live shows to be very noisy. Kill and Eat shows are very entertaining, if not chaotic. They are currently on hiatus, being that the members went off to different parts of the country to pursue a college career, but a summer tour might be possible. « hide |
