Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation are members of the goth-rock/symphonic metal elite, occupied by compatriots Lacuna Coil, After Forever, The Gathering, and to a lesser degree, the power metal crossover group Nightwish, although they have denied the gothic label. The band consists of vocalist Sharon den Adel, guitarist Robert Westerholt, Jeroen Van Veen (bass), Martijn Spierenburg (keyboards), Ruud Adrianus Jolie (guitars) and Mike Coolen (drums). The band are often compared to Evanescence due to the way both bands rely on female vocalists and symphonies to create their sound.
