Love American formed over the summer of 2010--beginning with Adam Thomas (guitar) and Hans Cruz (guitar)--in the high desert of southern California in "what started out as two friends getting together to jam after running into each other at a Broken Social Scene show", with Ryan Longmore (drums) joining in on the jam sessions. They soon added Javier Ramirez (vocals) to the fold and spent the winter writing and recording their debut self-titled EP which was released in February of 2011. Six months and a rotating crew of bassists later they released a split EP with Ventura, California's Harbours. The split also marked the departure of vocalist Javier Ramirez who parted ways with the band shortly after its release. Love American rebounded by releasing a three-way split with Texas' Bust and Ohio's Mother Grizzly in November of 2011 with guitarist Adam Thomas taking over the vocal duties for the band. Soon after, bassist Stephen Johnson completed the lineup and the band set out to record their debut full-length record, Disquiet, released in June 2012. After claiming a breakup in late 2012, Love American then announced that they would record a series of three splits with Eager Sea, Statuette and Au Revoir, and embark on a national tour with Dead End Alaska through to mid-2013. Upon completion of the tour, however, the band finally broke up with none of the intended splits having been released. Adam Thomas and Hans Cruz recorded and re-recorded some tracks from the unreleased splits with former bassist Aaron Mould and drummer David Fajardo of Eager Sea which were released as a farewell EP entitled Hollow Crosses, released in March 2014. The band finally completed their career with a limited issue of 25 discography cassettes from Ronald Records, which also secretly contained a version of Hollow Crosses recorded with lead vocals from original frontman Javier Ramirez. « hide |
