Element Eighty was a four-piece nu-metal band formed in Tyler, Texas in 2000. Many may have heard of them on the video game Need For Speed:Underground. Element Eighty was composed of singer David Galloway, guitarist Matt "fucking" Woods, bassist Roon, and drummer Ryan Carroll. Roon left the band in December 2004 and was replaced by Zack Bates. The band released their first album Mercuric on June 21, 2001. Mercuric was produced by Eric Delegard at Reeltime Audio in Denton, Texas. The album performed well and soon Element Eighty became one of the biggest draws in the North Texas/DFW area. The success of Mercuric garnered the band major label attention leading to interviews with Wind-Up Records and Republic Records, among others. Although having announced that the follow-up to Mercuric, titled Summerstar, would be released in Summer 2003, e80 instead decided to sign a record deal with Universal's Republic Records. The band produced an album with Scott Humphrey (Rob Zombie, Fuel, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails) which released on October 28, 2003 to moderate sales, but due to dissatisfaction with their record label over poor promotion and broken promises (no pun intended), the band left Universal and once again became independent. Following their stint with Universal, they released their third and final album on November 5, 2005. Once again, they chose to work with acclaimed Denton producer Eric Delegard to produce their album. The Bear was well-received by what was by now a highly dedicated following and e80 continued playing North Texas and the southern United States for the remainder of their time together. Although officially announcing their breakup in 2007, the band continued playing occasional shows until at least 2010. « hide
