Seventh Angel are a British metal band formed in 1987 in Halesowen, England. Early in their career they played an uncommon mix of thrash metal and doom metal, not unlike the American band Confessor. Seventh Angel are a British metal band formed in 1987 in Halesowen, England. Early in their career they played an uncommon mix of thrash metal and doom metal, not unlike the American band Confessor. After two studio full lengths the group called it quits in 1993, with mastermind Ian Arkley going on to explore a gothic/death/doom sound in greater depth with his bands Ashen Mortality and later My Silent Wake, noting in an interview that he "was listening to a lot of Trouble, Candlemass, Paradise Lost, MDB" at the time. In 2009 he reformed Seventh Angel leading to the release of a third album which largely abandoned the thrash influence of in favour of more modern elements of melodic death/doom. Seventh Angel's lyrics feature overtly Christian themes as well as addressing sorrow, depression and struggle in general. However, Arkley has gone on record to say that he does not consider the band "Christian metal" or "White metal" and would like to get away from such tags. « hide |
