The Civil Wars were a duo consisting of John Paul White and Joy Williams. Meeting at a songwriting workshop in 2008, the two formed a
country-folk band and debuted their first EP, "Poison & Wine," in 2009.
Two years later, in February 2011, album "Barton Hollow" was released and quickly became the top downloaded iTunes album. On November
30, 2011 The Civil Wars were awarded two Grammys for "Best Folk Album" and "Best Country Duo/Group Performance."

After their latest win, The Civil Wars formally separated on August 5th, 2013 for undisclosed reasons.
