Edward Shearmur is a British film composer who studied at the Royal College of Music and Cambridge. He has over forty film scores on
his credit. His scores vary from action films to drama and from thrillers to comedy.
His career began in 1993 with a film score on Cement Gardens after working as an assistant to composer Michael Kamen. In 1998 he
wrote the score for the sequel Species II and in 1999 he composed the music for the popular and star-studded film Cruel Intentions,
which starred Reese Witherspoon.
The next big movie on his credit was the McG directed action film Charlie's Angels which was based on the hit TV series of the 70's. His
next film scores were written for big flops such as The Sweest Thing, K-Pax, The Reign of Fire and the sequel for Charlie's Angels.
The string of flop films continued, although Johnny English (2003) was a big hit in Europe and especially in his native country, the UK,
but his career wasn't helped by such films as the Wesley Snipes action thriller Nine Lives (2005) and Miss Congeniality 2.
He also composed the score for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a salute for the old-era sci-fi flicks which naturally included an
old-era soundtrack with full orchestra arrangements.
His later compositions included scores for the Jennifer Aniston flick Derailed in 2005 and a comedic attempt for Epic Movie (2006). His
latest score is for the film The Other Boley Girl which will be released on February 28th 2008 and stars Natalie Portman, Eric Bana and
Scarlett Johansson. « hide
