Along with countrymates Anathema and MyDying Bride, they are credited for creating the subgenre known as "doom/death" metal. This band is characteristic for having experimented on variousfields, but have still managed to (mostly) keep their original setup.During they long career, they've changed several styles, ranging from doom, gothic metal to synth rock and pop since 1997's release One Second.Back then, their sound was reminiscent of some of Depeche Mode's work. 2005's release, Paradise Lost, has marked a return to their roots, but stillkeeping a strong influence of their 1997-2005 sound, incorporating a lot of keyboards into their gothic metal sound.
