Florida's Industrial Metal project THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB is fronted by Thomas Thorn (a.k.a. Buck Ryder) of Black Metal band WOLFEN SOCIETY and having scene origins with MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL CULT. Guitarist Ricktor Ravensbruck also operates with WOLFEN SOCIETY. Created in 1991 the band debuted in October 1993 with 'Burn, Baby, Burn!' for Cleopatra Records. The original 1991 formation saw Thorn flanked by Shane Lassen (a.k.a. Rev. Created in 1991 the band debuted in October 1993 with 'Burn, Baby, Burn!' for Cleopatra Records. The original 1991 formation saw Thorn flanked by Shane Lassen (a.k.a. Rev. Dr. Luv), also a MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL CULT refugee, and former SCREAMER guitarist Ronny Valeo to record a four song demo at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. Adding percussionist Janna Flail (a.k.a. John Hatch) the band set about local live work and cut a further demo session. The following year witnessed showcase performances in both New York and Los Angeles, the eventually snagging a contract with Cleopatra Records. At this juncture Hatch was replaced by Richard Frost of TERRA FIRMA repute. Once again utilising Smart Studios the band crafted debut album 'Burn, Baby, Burn!'. Upon completion of these tracks Ricktor Ravensbrück from ARC OF DESCENT assumed guitar duties.Nationwide touring in 1994 was quickly followed up by the 'Satan's Little Helpers' album, laid down at Cornerstone Studios in Waukesha. As a temporary measure, Ravensbrück was substituted by Michael Moloch of ASYSTOLE for support touring with CHRISTIAN DEATH. Upon their return from the road THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB recorded the 'Kiss The Goat' album at Chicago's Trax Studios with producer Fluffy. Once again the position of guitarist proved fluid, with Gregor Mephisto now stepping into the role.1995 proved to be a year of extensive live work, commencing with US touring with PENAL COLONY as support. Despite losing bassist Sabrina Satana's services the band would guest for TYPE O NEGATIVE in October, undertake further headliners with openers SPAHN RANCH then slotted into the guest role with the GENITORTURERS to close the year. A 1995 EP, 'Trick Or Treat', an orange vinyl 7" limited to 1000 copies, included cover versions of AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell', TYPE O NEGATIVE's 'Black No. 1' and BAUHAUS' 'Bela Lugosi's Dead'.Tragedy struck the band in January 1996 when founding member Shane Lassen was killed in a car accident. The band persevered, putting down tracks for a new record at at Junkyard Studio in Milwaukee. With Mephisto's exit, guitarist Chuck 'Chains' Lenihan, a CRUMBSUCKERS, GENITORTURERS and GRIM FAERIES, joined the fold. Also augmenting the band would be a returning Riktor Ravensbrück and keyboard player Go-Go Partridge. However, although THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB embarked upon a nationwide tour, both Partridge and Frost decamped mid-trek. Hatch marked a return to action in order to complete the dates and the band evolved further still with the acquiring of Lady Bathory on keyboards and Sabrina Satana re-installed on bass. In this formation THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB supported GODFLESH and FEAR FACTORY.In 1997 Wilhelm Curse manned the keyboards for gigs opening up for DANZIG. New product came in the form of the 'Unholy Roller' EP. Gigs allied with GWAR were marred when Hatch departed after just one show. The vacancy was briefly filled by Eric Sizemore of LIERS IN WAIT before Vernon Bradley Womack (a.k.a. Vernon Vitn) from opening band PUNCTURE stepped up. Yet more changes had Satana choosing a career in acting over music. Nevertheless, THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB hooked up with TYPE O NEGATIVE once again for Halloween gigs. For these dates Adam N. Evol (a.k.a. Voluspa9) of FOG stood in for an absent Ravensbrück.Still promoting the 'Unholy Roller' set, the band, with Ravensbrück back in the ranks, put in inaugural 1998 US dates partnered with PITBULL DAYCARE. In keeping with a tradition of fracturing mid-tour, the group lost Wilhelm Curse, quickly drawing in Peter Guillard (a.k.a. Peteler Panzer) of MACE to cover on keyboards. For the final leg of the tour Sabrina Satana reprised her role as bassist.THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB's next album, 'Witness The Millenium', was recorded in the UK. Upon their return to the USA Lisa Lovecraft became the latest bassist. North American shows sharing stages with ALIEN SEX FIEND had Hatch re-instated. Remixing of 'Witness The Millenium' delayed the album release beyond 1999. Dioblo Ocho was to occupy the drum stool fleetingly prior to the enlistment of ARC OF DESCENT's James “The Butcher†Casper whilst the keyboard vacancy was filled by crew member Black Circle Chucky. An archive retrospective, comprising rarities, outtakes with a bonus disc of the 'Trick Or Treat' material surfaced as 'Empathy For The Devil'. 1999 was finalised with shows in union with the GENITORTURERS, predictably sporting a new roster, this time with Todd Ruzicka on drums.In 2000, with the eventual issue of 'Witness The Millenium', the band plays a clutch of shows, briefly adding the MORPHINE ANGEL credited Dominic St. Charles on second guitar, Michele Mortem as bassist and Bill Hamning of AVERNUS on drums. With Sabrina Satana, the group commenced work on a new record. Meantime, Thorn and Ravensbrück activated side-act WOLFEN SOCIETY in collaboration with Vince Crowley of ACHERON, Kyle Severn of INCANTATION and Lord Ahriman of DARK FUNERAL. This venture's utilisation of Swedish producer Tommy Tägtgren led in turn to his involvement in the next sessions for THE ELECTRIC HELLFIRE CLUB.In 2001 the musicians, with drummer Abyss Studios in tow, travelled to Sweden's famous Abyss Studios to craft 'Electronomicon' with Tägtgren behind the desk. US touring projected for the Autumn, in alliance with SERAPHIM SHOCK and NOCTURNE, was cancelled due to the 11th September New York terrorist attacks, also resulting in the album release being pushed back into January 2002.http://www.rockdetector.com/artist/united+states/florida/the+electric+hellfire+club « hide |
