The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud was an experimental dark ambient band, whose most distinguishing feature was their medieval elements (e.g. ritual and clerical chants, tales of peasantry, et al). They also were known for their industrial, gothic, and martial styles. However, their timbral style of neofolk remains the prominent feature of their sound.
