Ulcus was originally formed by Jarle, Sture, Jørn and Hektor under the name Ulcus Molle. Guitarist Hektor left on good terms in autumn 1996, and was soon replaced by Stian Bakketeig. The name was shortened to Ulcus in 1999 after the release of Malicious Triumph. Ulcus released their debut full-length in 2000 entitled Cherish the Obscure. The band dissolved the following year as every member became an active part of fellow Norwegian outfit Windir.
