Apocalyptic Raids 11-02-2007 01:39 AM
Is he a main focus?
Well he formed them, is executive producer on the newest album and is pretty much always the first person mentioned when the group is written about but there are quite a few other members too. I haven't really heard much material so I can't say for sure.
Why thank you. Are these artists from the same label? An informant tells me that most of the label's artists are similarly motivated.
I'm not sure.
It has Vinnie Paz in it so you'll like it I suppose.

MF Grimm
Atmosphere
Sage Francais

stuff like that
Never listened to MF Grimm.
Atmosphere is one of my favorite rapers.
Sage Francis's new album was really disappointing. :(

Lol.

But yeah, I love Atmosphere too. And I agree, Sage Francis's new album was sub-par.

Get going, dude, American Hunger is amazing. Check out my review in the review section. Scars and Memories is pretty tight too.

They're in Rhymesayers. Aesop is in Def Jux who are similar. You also may like Stones Throw artists.

Because they are indie/underground alternative rap sources a lot of the artists aren't very good. Although there are diamonds in the ruff.

MF Grimm is so boring, I don't get why people love him.

Honest Abel 11-02-2007 02:13 PM

I didn't like MF Grimm's stuff when I heard him a while back. The label I was talking about was MF Doom's; I was under the impression Aesop Rock was on the same label or in some collective.

I suppose I am an indie hip-hop fan.

casaba 11-02-2007 02:20 PM

hiphop

got this new album "top of the World" by Aristo
can't get enough of this canadian guy
anyone heard of him?

Correction 11-02-2007 02:51 PM

I can't stand Aristo, he's just commerical poppy ****. "Playa For Life" is cringe-worthy.

Kyle 11-04-2007 07:16 AM

Ugh, the term 'indie hip hop' is so gross.

MF Grimm's Scars and Memories is ace, been listening to it a lot recently.

Honest Abel 11-04-2007 08:43 AM

Sorry for disgusting you, Kyle. Are you feeling all right now, though?

ATM 11-04-2007 10:04 AM

American Hunger is descent, quite long though.

Josh, you should check out Brotha Lynch Hung.

Rams 11-04-2007 10:38 AM

The new Jay-Z is pretty good. The beats are all the usual Diddy stuff, which gives it a good concept through out. The track with Lil Wayne is unlistenable; I don't know what they were thinking. Besides that all the tracks are good to listen to, but there is nothing standout in them.

Crapdragoon 11-04-2007 01:46 PM

murs sounds like louis logic
Sorry for disgusting you, Kyle. Are you feeling all right now, though?
Yeah I'm getting there thanks.

I've been listening to loads of Dre/NWA stuff recently. How come nobody makes rap in this style anymore? Anyone know if there's gonna be a new Dre album?

ATM 11-05-2007 02:42 PM

Detox should be coming out in June '08.

Bet it's wack, though.

I'm not talking about lowriders and blunts and all that anymore… I mean, that's played. As a matter of fact, I'm tired of hearing other people talk about it, to tell you the truth… I had to come up with something different but still keep it hardcore, so what I decided to do was make my album one story about one person and just do the record through a character's eyes, and everybody that appears on my album is going to be a character, so it's basically going to be a hip-hop musical.

Wyko 11-05-2007 03:08 PM

Mm, I like both The Chronic/2001 but I don't have high expectations for Detox to be honest. But let's hope the best.

I feel the same.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-05-2007 11:48 PM

Hopefully he gets better guest rappers than he did on 2001.

I feel ya man. I've been bumpin heaps of NWA in my car, makes me wanna shoot some bitches. Eazy-E is one crazy fuck.

Haha yeah he is. I don't like his solo material though to be honest, although that Dre diss he did, "Real Muthaphuckking G's", is incredible.

"All of a sudden Dr Dre is a G-thang, but on his
old album cover he was a she-thang"

The irony of that song is hilarious.

badtaste 11-06-2007 06:13 PM

What's this song that I'm thinking about... has a host of guests on it (a lot, each with their verse), was released recently, I think it has had two music videos, chorus is sung by a female (sounds like Missy Elliot).

Guests start off slow, and then break into something faster.

Ah yeah, cool.

Love that intro with those kids.

kyle6677 11-07-2007 07:46 AM

does anyone have the new Saul Williams? I got it, but havent listened to it all the way through yet. so far, some of the tracks sound pretty good, others not so much

AA-12 11-07-2007 08:09 AM

It's really, really, insane.

MattSharpIsCool 11-08-2007 12:03 AM

Anyone listen to Black Star? Mos Def and Talib Kweli?

I'm getting into rap, or hip hop or whatever.

sgrevs 11-08-2007 12:10 AM

Black Star is one of the best hiphop albums. I've got Black on Both Sides by Mos Def and it's pretty good, most Talib stuff is ok, nothing too special.

AA-12 11-08-2007 12:22 AM

This is kind of related (Matt reminded me). Have you guys seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party? The performances (not to mention the whole movie) are amazing. Definitely have to suggest that to anyone into hip hop.
