That's why I draw thought provoking comparisons to other groups so someone I'm talking to can imagine the sound. PTH sounds like The Fall of Troy grew up to be Rush.
lol good one

What kind of gays bottle beer in plastic?

Benzilla 10-02-2010 08:23 PM

Harmonic minor scales and extended hammer/tap riffs. They're not going too far out of their wheelhouse from what it looks like.

I'm completely fine with that.

Tyler 10-03-2010 06:12 PM

There's an actual distinction between rhythm and leads I'm told, which should be interesting.

Pastor of Muppets 10-04-2010 08:44 AM

I can't wait to hear a taste of that bass

2muchket! 10-04-2010 08:50 AM

no homo

undergroundshredder 10-13-2010 05:13 PM

Fantastic
I can't wait to hear a taste of that bass
Yeah hopefully they do a little more prominance basswise this time.

Tyler 10-13-2010 09:34 PM

I thought the bass levels were fine on Fortress.

Dimmu Burger 10-13-2010 09:36 PM

I didn't think they stood out enough. Dude is really talented. Plus they could write something that would give him some room to do more IMO.

Tyler 10-13-2010 09:36 PM

There'll be a lot of complex bass work on the new one but don't expect any solos or anything. Expect a couple of jammed out grooves though.

Dimmu Burger 10-13-2010 09:37 PM

I wouldn't really want a solo anyway, but you can have a verse where it's drum and bass driven with some cool guitar stuff in the background.

Tyler 10-13-2010 09:39 PM

There's a pretty good passage in the rhythm studio video with what you're looking for.

Dimmu Burger 10-13-2010 09:49 PM

Sweeet!

gocsa666 10-18-2010 02:11 PM

Here's a new interview with Arif about the upcoming album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o229cpkWVw

Btw did you guys also hear him say March?:O :(

Tyler 10-18-2010 05:13 PM

March is about right, they're just starting vocals today.

publicastration 10-18-2010 05:15 PM

great news

damn i havent listened to them in awhile lol

Wholksdaskppy 10-18-2010 05:47 PM

Yes! awesome news. Cant wait for some new material.

Ventriloquist 10-18-2010 05:47 PM

meh it's been too long and too many awesome albums came out. I'm not that anxious to hear it anymore. but I'll listen the shit out of it when it does.

Benzilla 10-19-2010 07:50 PM

Still no word on any possible themes for the album.

Arif, I am disappoint. Give me more to be excited about.

Wholksdaskppy 10-21-2010 09:45 PM

Man Arif is the man. If i could spend one day inside that mind.... I would be a million times the musician i already am(which granted isnt the best, but ive been playing bass for 12 years, drums for 14, and guitar for 13 so im pretty well rounded). Wish i could afford to go back to school and get as knowledgable about bass as he is.

Tyler 10-21-2010 09:47 PM

Who says you have to go to school to get where he is? I think his old bass teacher was the dude from Honeymoon Suite, I mean, you either work at it and make it your life or you don't, yknow?

beans 10-21-2010 10:25 PM

Agreed. Only way they get that good is from constant practice.

alytee123 10-22-2010 08:25 AM

Practice is certainly the best way to become a great player, but you can't discredit some of the theory and knowledge you can pick up from studying at college or from a teacher.

Tyler 10-23-2010 08:21 PM

I'm getting a strong sense that it's not gonna be what people are expecting.

beans 10-24-2010 06:49 PM

I say amen. im hoping it comes out of left field.

Wholksdaskppy 10-26-2010 03:46 PM

Oh music is my life brotha but learning music theory on my own can only be taken so far. I need help connecting the dots sometimes. I mean i did drumline, jazz band, concert band, symphonic, ect ect all through junior high school and high school. Even some independant lines after high school so i know a bit of theory already but learning new theory and connecting that with what i already know is a bit confusing sometimes without help yamean? I mean ive been playing music on different instruments for 12 years now so ive got experience but pulling off the stuff Arif does takes alot more thoery than i know for sure.

duma87 11-11-2010 08:47 PM

So according to a dude who reads Metal Hammer, Rody said this...
"Arif isn't writing the lyrics, I've taken over. It sucks! The lyrics and themes aren't as complex as our past efforts but the sound is more progressive. Once we tried to write the fastest, heaviest album we could; the new one is concentrated on complexity and dynamics."
http://www.last.fm/music/Protest+the+Hero

Not sure how legit this is or if Rody was kidding around (likely). Thoughts, Tyler?

Tyler 11-14-2010 02:55 PM

I haven't really heard either way.

Tyler 12-10-2010 04:51 PM

Looks like recording is basically done other than overdubs and stuff. Half the album is already off being mixed by some dude who usually works with Lamb of God and Jadea Kelly's going to be on it. Real stoked to hear something from this. I've heard so many conflicting things on how it's going to sound: that it's their most complex but most melodic, that it's not going to be as heavy as their progression would imply, blablabla. Come out already.

alytee123 12-10-2010 05:31 PM

Cheers for the update, heavy, melodic, progressive, whatever, looking forward to hearing it.

Benzilla 12-14-2010 04:48 PM

The video is actually NSFW, btw.

Tyler 12-14-2010 04:59 PM

yeah but there's some decently long clips of music so it's worth almost seeing rody's balls i guess

shortz 12-14-2010 08:00 PM

Sweet stuff

gocsa666 01-13-2011 03:12 PM

Let's get things movin' again around here. New album is supposedly titled Scurrilous. Release date: March 22.

Tyler 01-13-2011 03:15 PM

It's still unconfirmed but the release date makes sense. At least half of the album is probably finished mastering by now. I'll see if I can confirm the title.

Also they're rumoured to be headlining a tour with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and Tesseract

Think the art on that poster could be pulled from the album art?

Tyler 01-13-2011 04:48 PM

I highly doubt it, but obviously it's possible.
