Angmar 08-13-2009 01:27 PM

I like Gorguts vocals tbh.

Stormrider 08-13-2009 02:01 PM

Yeah, they're great.

Si1v3RfaNg 08-13-2009 02:02 PM

They rule on Erosion of Sanity.

Deth 08-13-2009 03:17 PM

but they're completely different on Obscura and pretty bad for the most part

iamtherobots 08-13-2009 05:17 PM

The vocals on Obscura are pretty badass, not gonna lie.

Angmar 08-13-2009 05:18 PM

They're better on From Wisdom to Hate tbh.

iamtherobots 08-13-2009 05:19 PM

Different =/= worse or better.

I like the distinctness of the vocals on Obscura... they work especially well with the screechy guitars.

Angmar 08-13-2009 05:22 PM

Vocals on From Wisdom to Hate are really similar though just better idk.

Jaundice 08-13-2009 08:32 PM

I have a difficult challenge for you guys if any one is willing to accept

I need modern day progressive rock, with more emphasis on progressive than on rock
and a strong sense of irony.

Plz no Porcupine Tree.

Txus 08-13-2009 08:41 PM

Gazpacho

Jaundice 08-13-2009 08:49 PM

Txus 08-13-2009 09:06 PM

what kind of progressive do you mean?

like psychedelic or more ambient or just more experimental in song structure or instrumentation or what? progressive is such a general term that doesn't really mean anything besides "different" or "weird" which means even less in this day and age when every type of music imaginable is already so prevalent.

That said I will recommend:

Boredoms- Super ae or Super Roots 9
Venetian Snares-Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett
Battles- Mirrored
Melt-Banana- Cell Scrape
Hella- Hold Your Horse Is
Natsumen- Never Wear Out yOUR Summer xxx
Maps and Atlases- Trees, Swallows, Houses
Mars Volta- Deloused In the Comatorium

Knowing your tastes, the first 4 would be more your type I think. They're all amazing very different sounding albums that could be considered progressive but the latter 4 are more rockish

edit: actually now that I think of it you'd probably really dig Hella- Chirpin Hard/ Church Gone Wild a lot... get that instead of Hold Your Horse Is it's very video game-ish but not in the manner of all those stupid shitty 8-bit bands

Jaundice 08-13-2009 09:23 PM

Hella is close to what I had in mind, already have some Boredoms and Melt Banana and believe it or not I've got some Mars Volta records at the house

I meant some thing maybe rock-oriented in nature but with fusiony guitar solos and weird song structures and experimentation. Idk, kinda hard to explain the idea i have in my mind.

Anthracks 08-13-2009 09:28 PM
but they're completely different on Obscura
no not really

Txus 08-13-2009 09:33 PM
Venetian Snares-Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett
and that's progressive rock how?

Moon Flavor 08-13-2009 09:33 PM

yeah you told me you have shitty melt banana scratch or stitch. cells scrape is like an entirely different band and way better. So get that. And that hella album. As well as Total Bugs Bunny on Wild Bass.

But based on your second paragraph, you need to get Natsumen- Never Wear Out Your Summer xxx. It's stuck as my favorite album for a longass time now and it's pretyy much what you described but better times a billion

Moon Flavor 08-13-2009 09:35 PM
and that's progressive rock how?
idk he said progressive rock emphasis on the progressive so i just pretended he was looking for progressive music that wasn't rock.

Txus 08-13-2009 09:36 PM

Breakcore is not progressive, though.

Moon Flavor 08-13-2009 09:40 PM
Breakcore is not progressive, though.
no, but that album totally is

1) nobody does breakcore in that manner
2) nobody samples like vsnare
3) nobody's turned hungarian classical music into breakcore
4) it's dramatically different from anything else out there

why does everyone argue with me for the sake of arguing it's progressive enough

Txus 08-13-2009 09:46 PM
1) nobody does breakcore in that manner
FatalEnergy 08-14-2009 01:18 PM

I need some ****ed up 60s psychedelic stuff. Similar to Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd.

Nepenthe 08-14-2009 01:23 PM

just listen to chico magnetic band and gong and youll be fine

FatalEnergy 08-14-2009 01:36 PM

I've got a bunch of Gong. Sometimes they get a little too goofy though.

Jaundice 08-14-2009 01:37 PM

does it have to sound like syd barrett era pink floyd or can it just be ****ed up 60s psychedelic stuff and good

FatalEnergy 08-14-2009 01:39 PM
does it have to sound like syd barrett era pink floyd or can it just be ****ed up 60s psychedelic stuff and good
I just used Syd Barrett as a reference point.
