ugh shut up brent

adbforever 07-07-2011 05:18 PM

lol you guys

saying "shut up" to me is basically "I'm too lazy to formulate a response, I'm queerbait"
What void is this filling then Brent???
the boredom void

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:20 PM

you didn't answer his question at all, you basically stated "you have free time"

why do he/other people spend time on the internet when they could be doing other things instead

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:23 PM

yeah I've been meaning to read a lot more lately but haven't really got around to it

pour example

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:23 PM

ive been reading a lot more lately now that ive been rereading a song of ice and fire

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:25 PM

i've been reading THE NECRONOMICON which is actually just a bunch of Lovecraft stories but short stories have trouble keeping my attention since there's nothing to keep me coming back to it once I'm between stories and it's been slow going so far as a result

book looks sexy as hell though makes me feel like i'm trying to summon Cthulhu or something

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:26 PM

yeah i know what you mean, theres no real overriding narrative that draws you back in

i do love me some lovecraft though

just realized i still have yet to finish at the mountains of madness what is wrong with me

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:27 PM

yeah, I'm going to get through the whole thing though eventually, I mean it's some really good stuff

adbforever 07-07-2011 05:27 PM

1. shortz is a girl

2. internet is the ultimate in convenience, that's a huge benefit

you can watch anything, read anything, music etc

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:28 PM

reading books on the internet is a fucking abomination

why would you ever do that, I'd rather burn out my eyes

shortz 07-07-2011 05:28 PM

That was my goal this summer, to read things that I actually want to read (in lieu of school books and lovely things like that). But I think with being in school the majority of the year and having so many things to read for courses it kind of dimmed my love of reading.

Brent, he was referring to Slightly's original comment

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:30 PM
1. shortz is a girl

2. internet is the ultimate in convenience, that's a huge benefit

1. shortz didn't ask the question

2. he said waste time, not read anything, watch anything
yeah, I'm going to get through the whole thing though eventually, I mean it's some really good stuff
yeah ive read just about everything he ever wrote. what stories have you read so far

and yeah reading stuff online normally sucks. i downloaded a song of ice and fire on my computer though and its organized into html format with each chapter as a different page, and its a lot easier to read than most stuff on the computer is. i read it at night so i dont have to turn my light on for my book

Iscariot 07-07-2011 05:33 PM

got most of my stuff packed up and i'm moving to my friend's house on the 9th

h8 lyfe

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:34 PM
yeah ive read just about everything he ever wrote. what stories have you read so far
I'm just over 100 pages in so going by the contents I've read

Night-Gaunts, Dagon, The Statement of Randolph Carter, The Doom That Came to Sarnath, The Cats of Ulthar, The Nameless City, Herbert West - Reanimator, The Music of Erich Zann, The Lurking Fear, The Hound, The Rats in the Walls, Under the Pyramids

and I've also read the Call of Cthulhu before

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:35 PM

solid

i think the rats in the walls is my favorite out of all of those. it just gets so completely fucked up at the end

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:35 PM

I stare at screens all day enough as it is without doing so for books as well, as far as I'm concerned nothing compares to actually having a physical book in front of you.

adbforever 07-07-2011 05:36 PM

what isn't a waste of time to you guys

I think working, being around others = not a waste of time. Also exercise

everything else is free time alone to fuck around as filler waiting for the next worthwhile thing to do

there is no reason to live if you have nothing to look forward to in life

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:38 PM

oh i agree 100%. at the place i'm working though i didn't have room to pack a lamp so i can't really read at night unless it's on the computer, since i hate having the room light on at night when i'm going to bed

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:38 PM

I think posting on here probably qualifies as a waste of time in my books, along with vapid tumblr 'blogging', I really ought to delete my tumblr

robertsona 07-07-2011 05:39 PM

im readiong a book called godel escher bach by douglas hofstadsatsrdfder its so cool

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:39 PM

yeah same here except for the tumblr part though, i actually need to work on updating mine more, ive been too lazy

shortz 07-07-2011 05:39 PM
reading books on the internet is a fucking abomination

I agree, I prefer to have my books on paper not on a screen.

I don't understand the fascination with e-books that way (well I get it 'cause it's convenient if you have a lot of books, and/or travel a lot but I just like to have the physical copy in my hands - I guess it's kind of the same with CD's that way)

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:40 PM

one of my friends has a kindle and reads a lot of stuff on it. it actually seems really convenient

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:41 PM
oh i agree 100%. at the place i'm working though i didn't have room to pack a lamp so i can't really read at night unless it's on the computer, since i hate having the room light on at night when i'm going to bed
Ah, okay yeah that's a shame, I'd still probably try and find some way around it personally rather than read it on the computer. idk having said that it's probably still better than those hand-held e-book things or whatever they're called, those things get me really mad.

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:41 PM

yeah its not that much of a sacrifice though, most nights im too tired to read before i go to bed haha.

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:43 PM

haha fair enough, I tend to read most when I'm on vacation, probably since I never have internet access. that's kind of sad really. I ought to not have internet access more often.

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:44 PM

yeah me too. i'm working at a summer camp and we had about 4 or 5 days off for a break, i got a lot of reading done, it was really nice

shortz 07-07-2011 05:45 PM
one of my friends has a kindle and reads a lot of stuff on it. it actually seems really convenient
Yeah my dad just got an Kobo. He's always reading though so it's understandable for him. For me, I'll just stick with a good ol' book where I can actually flip pages haha.

doubtfully then 07-07-2011 05:46 PM

mad a beet indda like it

illmitch 07-07-2011 05:46 PM

kobo sounds like an african nignog name

shortz 07-07-2011 05:47 PM

It does, but I can assure you that it isn't. (At least what I'm referring to)

adbforever 07-07-2011 05:51 PM

I told my friend yesterday that I dont have the attention span for books

she suggested comic books and I was like nah

SlightlyEpic 07-07-2011 05:54 PM

you're missing out on so much, I can't even begin to fathom how you can do that to yourself

you don't read fiction, you don't watch movies, your taste in music is limited to say the least

Are you just purposefully trying to avoid anything stimulating?
