Haha, that was a bit ambiguous. I meant that I didn't say they were non-elite. And for Cocaine, I was talking about old Swedish dm bands.

Malfeitor 04-24-2008 11:38 PM

BTW Invicta Veritas have you been living under a rock for 3 years? I've always been an elitist and I'm sure that Cocaine knows it.

Tyler 04-24-2008 11:38 PM

Way to miss the joke guys.

Angmar 04-24-2008 11:48 PM

Definitely a stab at grammar. :o

ninjamonkey 04-25-2008 12:17 AM
I can't help that a certain style of music doesn't appeal to me. I don't like it because it seems too happy and I just don't like it. What more can I say. Also, it's all been repeated a million times.

I never said I hated the bands, that their non-elite, just that I don't like them.
i was jokign around.

Seriously though, I'm quite surprised at the lack of fellation for Carnage, Dismember, Entombed, etc.

Not from you, just in general

Apocalyptic Raids 04-25-2008 12:20 AM

idk Dismember usually get a fair bit of love around here.

ninjamonkey 04-25-2008 12:28 AM

true. I just meant on the last couple pages

Nostalgia 04-25-2008 12:38 AM

Well I guess I'm not the ideal person to critique death metal. However, The God that Never was sounded like polished, overproduced, redundant and boring death metal. Nothing seemed interesting and it was plain boring.

Again, I really only enjoy old-school death metal anyways, which is another reason my opinion is a little skewed.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-25-2008 12:43 AM

is that all you've heard? because Dismember's debut is essential old-school dm.

Nostalgia 04-25-2008 12:50 AM

Post a link and I may attend to your suggestion.

Pete 04-25-2008 12:53 AM

idk how much more old school death than dismember you can get =/ judging a 20 year old band by their (second) latest album is pretty stupid.

Nostalgia 04-25-2008 12:55 AM

I don't know about you guys, but I don't continually download band's albums in hope to enjoy them. Someone recommended me that album, I downloaded it, and didn't like it. Why would I have the motivation to go download more of their albums when the album I heard was shit?

Sorry I don't have the patience to sift through a band's 50 album discography.

Obsequies 04-25-2008 12:58 AM

It's just kind of funny since early Dismember, overrated or not, is pretty much a staple of dm.

ninjamonkey 04-25-2008 12:58 AM

If you like old school death, it would seem logical to ignore that album and get their old material.

Btw, you never replied to me on last.fm after you asked me that question haha

Pete 04-25-2008 12:58 AM

fair enough.

i personally think dismember have maintained a level of good songwriting throughout what i've heard from them, and the cleanliness of their later productions don't bother me. but that's just personal preference

Nostalgia 04-25-2008 01:00 AM

Well I'll give it a shot.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-25-2008 01:02 AM
Post a link and I may attend to your suggestion.
need to spread so I messaged you on last.fm

Pete 04-25-2008 01:07 AM

on the topic of old school death; name abunch (like 5-10) essential old school death albums. i wanna download something and i may have missed out on some essential stuff :)

C.O.A. 04-25-2008 01:24 AM

wtf @ never hearing Like an Everflowing Stream.

FatalEnergy 04-25-2008 01:24 AM

Autopsy - Severed Survival
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Master - Master
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
Belial - Wisdom of Darkness

That's 5 elite old school DM albums

C.O.A. 04-25-2008 01:41 AM

and the obvious ones:

Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
Carnage - Dark Recollections

Stevie II 04-25-2008 01:50 AM

THe only worthwhile Dismember release is Like an Everflowing Stream. I'm not a big fan of the swedish DM. I think the sunlight studio production just tries to make it as phat as possible, and it has no atmosphere to it. If you haven't heard Like an Everflowing Stream, Nostalgia, give it a try. It's definitely got that swedish sound but it's one of the few of the swedish DM bands I enjoy. Stuff like Entombed never really did it for me.

Malfeitor 04-25-2008 01:52 AM

Stevie II has done a far better job at articulating why I don't like Swedish DM, haha.

Perfect death metal album = Onwards to Golgotha. Get that, you won't need anything else for about 2 weeks

FatalEnergy 04-25-2008 02:32 AM

I usually just like the first album of each Swedish band, but I don't usually listen to them that often. Of all of them I probably listen to Unleashed - Where No Life Dwells the most. That one seems to get overlooked.

Tyler 04-25-2008 02:36 AM

Where No Life Dwells is pretty solid but I dont think it sounds that similar to those other bands.

FatalEnergy 04-25-2008 02:41 AM

That's probably why I like it the most. Something about it sticks out to me more than the others.

Stevie II 04-25-2008 03:25 AM

Ah yes, Unleashed. Other "different" sounding bands? Therion, At the Gates, Darkthrone (Soulside Journey) - to a certain extent, help me out here...

Apocalyptic Raids 04-25-2008 03:49 AM

Necrophobic
Carbonized
Demilich

I like that album a lot but the only thing that really kills me about it is the lack of decent solos (if i'm remembering correctly).

Stevie II 04-25-2008 05:28 AM

production's weaker than shadows in the deep which is my preference

Do Incantation have anything good besides Onwards To Golgotha?

pate 04-25-2008 06:55 AM

Primordial Domination is solid.

repcak 04-25-2008 07:01 AM

I just listen to the new Grave.

Malfeitor 04-25-2008 07:18 AM
Do Incantation have anything good besides Onwards To Golgotha?
Yea, everything.

Stormrider 04-25-2008 07:30 AM

I've only heard the first 2 Dismember albums, and Like an Ever Flowing Stream is the only one of the 2 I really like.

The other one has some pretty good moments, but overall, it's nothing more than 'alright'

pate 04-25-2008 07:32 AM

What's the other one?

Stormrider 04-25-2008 07:32 AM

Considering I said the only Dismember albums I heard are the first 2, the other one would most likely me Indecent and Obscene :p

pate 04-25-2008 07:34 AM

Oh, I missed "the first"

masscows 04-25-2008 08:24 AM
Do Incantation have anything good besides Onwards To Golgotha?
Diabolical Conquest and Primordial Domination are the other ones I have, and they're both ****ing excellent but a little different from Onward.

RetiredAt21 04-25-2008 08:57 AM

How different from Onward...?
