Great split, that MotA one.

Nepenthe 05-02-2007 03:13 PM

You ever heard Year Of No Light? They remind me of Mouth Of The Architect in so many ways.

Rosolina Mar is quite possibly the happiest music in the world. (different subject)

bwnstl 05-02-2007 10:53 PM

Kage: I'd like that please. bjwumr AT gmail DOT com

Any suggestions for more uplifting all-time classic post-rock tracks?

It would be helpful if post-rock had a sub-classification, because I'm always looking for more great tracks but it's difficult to quantify exactly what I like. My favourites are: Olsen Olsen, Samskeyti, Hoppipolla ,Lift your skinny fists, Tracy, Friend of the Night so I guess I'd say my tastes are Post-Rock melodic/orchestral. My favourites tend to be instrumental but I also love Do you Realise (The Flaming Lips) and Two-step (Low).

On the other hand, 65days of static could be post-rock/rock?
Yndi Halda & A Silver Mt. Zion = post-rock/drone (repetitious, downbeat?)
Aphex Twin & Amon Tobin = post-rock/cold (can't think of a better word. Their songs are just emotionally isolating)
Dead can Dance = post-rock/medieval

I'm new to post-rock, so I'm basically just thinking aloud.

AlienEater 05-05-2007 05:28 AM

Aphex Twin are electronic music not post-rock

I just ordered that Rosetta split

Uplififting Post Rock? Magyar Posse, Rosolina Mar, The Ascent Of Everest, and Clogs.

Moon Flavor 05-05-2007 09:11 AM

Dude, Yndi Halda is about as uplifting as it gets.

Nepenthe 05-05-2007 09:12 AM

He's already heard them though. But yeah, they are.

Moon Flavor 05-05-2007 09:17 AM
He's already heard them though. But yeah, they are.
Oh yeah, I was just saying that he labelled them as "drone" and not "uplifting". It irk't me.

In that case, I'd say give Cats and Cats and Cats a listen. They're REALLY different from average post-rock, they have singing a good amount of the time, and they have a really nice kind of "sad happiness" to them.

Txus 05-05-2007 09:25 AM

Cats and Cats and Cats are outstanding.

Kyle 05-05-2007 09:32 AM

Yeah I like them a lot too. All I have is Sweet Drunk Everyone though, do they have any more material available.

Sleepy 05-05-2007 09:45 AM

Dead Can Dance is a gothic band, with a lot of ethnic beats to them. Good stuff, but not post-rock.

They have another EP that, for some reason, I have not picked up yet.

I think I'm gonna get it now and then up them both for the Daily Upload eventually.

Txus 05-05-2007 10:41 AM

Sweet, I want that EP.

Moon Flavor 05-05-2007 10:44 AM
Sweet, I want that EP.
Damn, it's proving hard to find.

It was actually up on another forum I go to not long ago, but I passed it up at the time, and now that forum is down... :upset:

Txus 05-05-2007 10:54 AM

:( I was looking for the EP over blogspot search but I had no luck.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-05-2007 08:25 PM

Trust me it does. That'll unpack anything you throw at it.

Kage 05-05-2007 10:31 PM

Wait a minute, you're sending out the Rosetta split?

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-05-2007 10:32 PM

Stuffit works great, thanks Kage.

I'm downloading the split now, and thanks again Anthony.

Anyway, I'm listening to the PSQ album right now. It's amazing so far.
