Sequim would be a lot cooler of a place to live if the predominant inhabitants weren't 80some year old Californians and rednecks.

illmitch 12-24-2011 12:51 AM

you always do new shit when youre all shitfaced

blockhead 12-24-2011 12:51 AM

i'm not trying to be a dick but i bet that half of you will realize you're alcoholics when you get out of college and it stops being socially acceptable to binge drink often

i hope that doesnt happen though because i really like you guys and i've seen people go through alcohol withdrawals and it's not pretty

beans 12-24-2011 12:51 AM

im off guys.

farewell

publicastration 12-24-2011 12:52 AM

i don't think getting drunk on the weekends really equals being an alcoholic

i get bored drinking with my friends/my girl now

i just did it so much when i was younger that i burned myself out on partying

i feel happier when i'm sober most of the time

NEEDTOPOST 12-24-2011 12:55 AM

"social lubricant" is really an apt descriptor for alcohol. i find that it helps you to forge friendships and that within those friendships you'll naturally and gradually ween yourself off of alcohol

meh most people do it and most people readjust reasonably well

i'm sort of on a sped up lunar cycle thats based on the phases of a few work schedules between friends, where i drink often but not regularly. i'll go a week without even thinking about drinking here and there

it really depends on stuff thats more deeply fixed
i don't think getting drunk on the weekends really equals being an alcoholic
i hate to say this but: straw man

i never even said anything like that. you guys talk about binge drinking all the time so i assume its more than just the weekend. i'm not trying to troll anyone or hate on anyone tho

and by the way you don't have to drink every day to be an alcoholic. you can be an alcoholic even if you only drink on the weekend

yeah most people are fine you're right

i learned a lot about the science of addiction from the doctors lectures we had in rehab and roughly 15% of people are wired to be addicts. (This is all science not AA bs by the way I don't believe that.) They compare addiction to an allergy where the 15% react to drugs or alcohol with a craving for more. They're fine when they abstain from it but when they put it in their body they have a strong mental craving to do it more and more often.

I know that I can't ever do heroin even occasionally any more because it's my drug of choice and I know if I do it again it will be really hard to stop because I can't control myself with it. Now I try to only take hydrocodone occasionally because I like it but its really not worth the money to me any more and its not as fun as it used to be. I just have to be careful with drugs and stuff now because I know I'm one of the 15% who has an addictive personality.

sorry for the length

@blockhead yeah, it depends

Angmar 12-24-2011 01:05 AM

I have friends who smoke weed on the daily and sometimes throughout the entire day if they have nothing going on but will deny being addicted, and preach about how it's impossible to be addicted to weed. I like smoking and stuff but I can take big breaks and not even notice any difference in my behavior without it, I get bored of doing something like smoking or drinking after doing it multiple days in a row I guess.

blockhead 12-24-2011 01:05 AM

I'm going to stay sober for a while because I've been taking pills a little too much recently and I would rather buy a super nintendo and some games because that's more fun over all and I don't want to get addicted again.

illmitch 12-24-2011 01:06 AM

most of the people i know who drank as much/more than me in college (ie guys in my frat) who graduated are well-adjusted people who have good jobs so im not too worried

(*The Noonward Race*) 12-24-2011 01:06 AM

addictions are just patterns of behavior used by doctors to help you get better if it needs to be

no need to fret over definitions, you know yourself hopefully what's going on

adb 12-24-2011 01:06 AM

Angmar 12-24-2011 01:07 AM

Yeah marijuana has been proven to be psychologically addictive. For some reason potheads believe that marijuana is 100% harmless and actually helps solve problems but there are all kinds of problems associated with it just like any other drug.

I think psychedelics are my favorite of the drugs I've used, only done mushrooms twice and one hit of acid once but I'm excited for my first real acid trip next week.

I really doubt you're an addict and I'm not hatin on you I'm just sayin cause a lot of people act like binge drinking isn't a problem because they don't understand addiction and society promotes drinking.

I've seen alcoholics first hand that were just as bad as any junkie.

I haven't done it in a while but I learned a lot about myself from acid. One hit never really had much of an effect on me though. I usually took a minimum of two and at most ten. Ten hits of some strong acid and Black Sabbath's Master of Reality will rock your world.

Angmar 12-24-2011 01:16 AM

The one time I took a hit I just played Skyrim for 8 hours and thought a lot about stuff, felt really nice. I plan on taking 3 next time, my girlfriend and 3 other good friends of mine will be taking it as well, sure to be a good time.

illmitch 12-24-2011 01:16 AM

im fine with being a square and not using psychedelic drugs
