If characters had a price attached, a space would be nothing, but a comma would be like 3 or so cents.

I think a space is a poor man's comma.

PS: I figured the rest of the world just went 100000 and stuff. Spaces make sense too. I think commas look nicer though. Of course we're all just a bunch of completely biased ethnocentrics.
