I assume I can ask for recommendations here, so anyone know stuff like Tim Hecker? |
v nice good work
I assume I can ask for recommendations here, so anyone know stuff like Tim Hecker?
Fennesz, Oren Ambarchi, Machinefabriek, Aidan Baker, Ben Frost, William Basinski, Marsen Jules, Murcof, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Taylor Dupree... |
Kind of an open-ended request, but can anyone recommend me really dark sounding music, does not have to be metal-based. Looking for stuff with identifiable song structures, meaning traditional frameworks. Maybe something with folk, pop or electronic touches.
|
That's a very good list. I will definitely check out thrash and power metal bands that I haven't checked out yet.
Could you add Cryptopsy to death metal section? |

Have you heard Elend? Basically really dark orchestral compositions with a modern twist. |
They were described to me as some fruitcake band thta's all "Scary" and whatnot. I'll check them out, but I'm definitely not looking for that if its the case. You guys all fap over Rome, so basically stuff that sounds like "Querkraft". But for the love of god, don't recommend me a bunch of neo-martial army military pop industrial just because it's convenient. Y'know what I mean, though? Stuff that has that sort of ominous tone. Even like the new Hateful Abandon, just a little less South Park Goth-y. Or like Type O Negative, but without songs that go on three minutes too long and a vocalist who's probably masturbating while singing.
|
ahh
Check out The Great Annihilator by Swans |
Dillenger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me, Burst, Cursed, and As The Sun Sets totally need to be added to the metalcore reccs.
|
What about bands in the Porcupine Tree/Tool/Oceansize mould?
I think there needs to be a category for them, somewhere inbetween prog and psychedelica. |
Or like Type O Negative, but without songs that go on three minutes too long and a vocalist who's probably masturbating while singing.
Yes, I'd like something like this too. |
I heard it the first time, I plan on it.
Also, add Nick Cave's Tender Prey as another style I'm looking for into that huge request I had last page. |
Black Metal:
Bands you should like: Ash pool peste noire Urfaust Cryfemal Sombres forets sun of the sleepless Leviathan weakling (>:]) Xasthur (certain stuff) edit: shi beaten to some |
We don't wanna have the list be too long, I wouldn't put Ash Pool, Xasthur, Wealking or Leviathing for new comer/expanding stuff.
|
So.. For the last few weeks I've been listening to Agalloch almost every day.. Anyone know any similar bands?
|
post it in every thread why don't you?
Woods of Ypres are like a worse but still decent Canadian Agalloch. |
neo-martial army military pop industrial
laibach! http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3SvjSu4R-8 |
I'm looking for some really vicious intense music, like Pageninetynine kind of stuff but without the breaks.
recs? |
BTBAM not in progressive section? Why is this so?
|
I'm looking for some really vicious intense music, like Pageninetynine kind of stuff but without the breaks.
recs?
So, like, screamo without breaks, or what? Can you get a wee bit more precise? |
I really like Acturus and maudlin of the Well and to some extent Unexpect...where can i go next in the avante-garde-ish metal world?
|
Though they are less focused on the metal side of thing, I suggest the Satanique Samba Trio. Misantropicalia or Sangrou.
|
Avant Garde is a ridiculous guideline, but I'll try my best:
Sigh (Imaginary Sonicscape, Hail Horror Hail, Gallows Gallery) Ordo Draconis (Camera Obscura Pt. I & II) Ved Buens Ende (Written in Waters) Ram-Zet (Escape) Solefald (In Harmonia Universali) Age of Silence (Acceleration) Psychopathology Orchestra (Valses de l'orchestre psychiatrique de Dijon) |
yea i kno it's a tuff guideline but iv been digging it a lot recently...thanks for the recs...all iv heard is Sigh who i liked but they didnt really grip me
|

Have you heard the Sigh album's I recc'd? Because their albums are all different |
i heard imaginary sonicscape based on your rec from the past i believe...i'll check out the others...also, are these albums difficult to find...by that i mean u recd me like 10 bands in the past (one being tooh or something to that effect) and i couldnt really locate any of their stuff
|
The Psychopathology Orchestra might be hard to find but the others shouldn't be difficult at all.
|
thats wut i was gunna look for first based on band name alone...noted and thanks a bunch
|
So, like, screamo without breaks, or what?
pretty much, but really intense ****, not like Hot Cross. |
i need some medieval classical music which has been recorded that is not Hildegard or Machaut
|
i'm lookin for anything good that sounds like suma - let the churches burn
|
i dnt know how to describe this...im looking for bands with multi-part songs that have moments of epicness (term is loose) (i guess that explains it)...for examples, The Mars Volta, Circle Takes the Squre, Protest the Hero, btbam, augry, unexpect, coheed etc...any bands that feel like 10 different songs are in one and that have a gay awesomeness to a lot of parts...any genre
|
That's known as progressive. See the list in the first post ^_^
|
Devil His Soul - A Fragile Hope is highly recommended. Something a bit different in the metal scene
|
That's known as progressive. See the list in the first post ^_^
pishaw, thats not what i was going for...wutevs |
1) just downloaded I] The Artist In The Ambulance and need some more music along those lines
2) GRIND! need some new grind along the lines of Fuck The Facts 3) seriously are there any deathcore bands anymore that are worth a sh*t? i seem to be running out of options... |
Listen to Insect Warfare.
|
Grind: listen to In Disgust and the new See You Next Tuesday as well.
Deathcore: the new Graves Of Valor looks like it'll be badass, Embrace The End is elite, Swallow The Ocean is elite, The End Of Six Thousand Years is elite. And you might like my friends' band: http://myspace.com/alongawaitedtragedy. I can upload their album for you because they never payed a better friend of mine for recording it, and they kicked out the kid who I'm closest with (their old vocalist) for completely bitch reasons. It's pretty different than most DXC, because it has a lot of pretty clean guitar parts and post hardcore influence. |
So can someone recommend me a Pink Floyd album they think I would like? I didn't really like Dark Side of the Moon that much, and I'm hesitant to get The Wall because the tracks are so short. Anyways yeah, thanks ahead of time.
|
The Wall is good.
If you're really that scared of it, get Wish You Were Here. |
