Review Summary: Well, this time they even tried.
Oceano has always been a hit/miss band for the metal community. Some people adore their intense deathcore style beyond good taste and others have kind of a "meh" -attitude towards their complete discography. I'm one of those people mentioned in the latter, I like some of their songs a fair bit, but I've always thought that they have a huge lack of actually wanting to create something memorable. Don't get me wrong; this album is still terribly forgettable, but isn't as abysmal of a mess than some of their previous (Incisions) efforts.
The song that made me want to listen through this album originally was "Dawn Of Descent", and I still think it's easily one of the highlights on the album. It has a decent atmosphere and some pretty damn brutal vocal parts, but it also ultimately falls short and the reason for that is simple: The lack of focus. It is something that plagues the entire album, and that's one of the reasons why this album is such a chore to listen through in one sitting. It is most prevalent in songs like "The World Engine". The song has a very messy structure, badly placed vocal parts, repetitive riffs and nothing memorable in it whatsoever. When there's 7 more tracks like that, you'll start to understand why it's a huge struggle to listen through the album.
How do I summarize the album then? Well again, if you're in to music that almost completely consists of dissonant-chord breakdowns and chugs with a small amount of atmospheric leadwork, this is definetely the stuff for you. But for people who appreciate a bit creativity and variety in their music, I don't recommend this to you, at all. Apart from the amazing cover art, short runtime and "Dawn Of Descent", there's pretty much no reason to buy this album.
When compared to their previous albums, it is easy to see that this time around they want to even try to do something that'll stick with you longer than for one sitting. But with material like this, it is almost impossible.
