The third full legnth studio album of punkers 88 Fingers Louie, as the chicago boys get back together for what would be their final album. The line up is:
Denis: Vocals
John: Drums
Joe: Bass
Mr Precision: Guitar
Tomorrow Starts Today - [5/5]
Starts of with the line 'getting the band back together,' a good analogy for the whole album, as that was exactly what they were doing. Probably my faverouite track on the album, with a great bass line and the usual ridiculously fast drumming from John. Highlight is deifnatly the slowed down bridge, with the cool lead guitar riff in it.
Selfish Means - [3/5]
Not as fast as the opener with a darker, more emotional tone to the song. Not my personal faveroutie but its a good all rounder track, also with a great bassline, and an average bridge.
State - [3.5/5]
Starts woth a cool distorted rythm guitar part and leads into the fast, angry verse. Singing is quite shouty in this song and the chorus has a classic oi! backing vocal part. A good song with an amazing bassline for the bridge, and the drumming being slightly more imaginative than usual.
Summer Photos - [4.5/5]
Another of my favourite songs, a definate love song, but with a very cool riff and lyrically very good to. Once agen another great bridge, but the highlight of this being the great melodic backing vocals. Very catchy tune, and sing along chorus. Overall a great track.
Two-Faced Bastard - [4/5]
Cool little rythm guitar thing at the start with a good lead bit. This song is probably the angriest on the album, talking about a two-faced friend that betrayed him. As usual freaking amazing rythm in the bridge.
Another Love Song - [3.5/5]
As the title suggests, its a love song, so you know what to expect lyrically, but the music is cool, with a little borken rythm in the verse and cool singalong, pretty poppy chorus.
Joyboy - [4/5]
This track is great, slower than the usual double time stuff in the verse, but it goes straight back to the fast stuff in the blistering chorus, followed by a great little bit after it. One of the better songs.
Newspaper - [3.5]
Pretty average song, best bit is the intro, with a pretty cool chorus as well. Very cool bassline, backed up with a good rythm, drums also doing something different which is a pleasent change.
Drunk And Ugly - [3/5]
At this point the album starts getting pretty repetetive in the way they play and songs they write, mostly depending on a pretty good rythm part to save the songs. And once againn they win because the rythm is good.
Worst Man Won - [2/5]
The worst song on the album, it starts of with some random obsenities and a guy talking about how hes going to crack open your head if you dont have his money. Kinda wierd but otherwise the song is good which is a shame, its really fast, very hardcore and shouty.
Punk Rock Rulebook -[5/5]
Thankfully, the worst song on the album was followed by one of the best. One of the first 88 songs i heard, its a great song about people who call people sellouts for getting a record deal and selling more than 20 records. Great, chunky rythm and a cool bridge can only be topped by the chorus that shouts out ' is it to much to ask, do me a favour close that punk rock rulebook, time have changed and so have i, i need to get by.' Great song.
Elmers - [4/5]
Great, song with a cool sing along chorus. Got abit of ska lead guitar riff in it to which is cool. Once again a strong. if not slightly short song that would have benifitted from a longer chorus.
Well Done - [3.5/5]
A very Bad Brains intro, leads into a cool faster than usual song, probably because the lyrics are pretty agnry.
100 Proof - [4.5/5]
A great song, with an extremely cool intro part. Kinda poppy with a cool wont get out of our head chorus. If they did another album i probably would have expected alot more songs like this.
FVK - [4/5]
Very short song, but the intro riff is worth a listen anyway, definatly the best guitar part of the album. Only realised this recently, but it is a Bad Brains cover. And a good one at that.
Admission - [3/5]
Not the greatest end track ever, but it does the job. Got a cool chorus and poppy guitar part in, so i would definatly recommend giving it a try. Very accesible if you dont like the harder parts of the album.
Overall - [4/5]
Definatly worth a listen if ure a punk fan, and a pretty good introduction into punk if you are listening to pop-punk and want to get into some slightly different stuff. Highlights are Tommorow Starts Today, Summer Photos and Punk Rock Rulebook. Shame Worst Man Won has such a sucky intro, otherwise this would be 4.5+.
